I have watched this house being torn down and rebuilt now for 2 months. They did a fantastic job and it is spectacular inside. Dream shower in the master bath with glass tile and a luxury shower head that changes colors when the temp is just right. New windows, doors and tile. New kitchen everything.
Just letting you know in case you come across anyone still hunting for a perfect retirement spot. 10818 W. Sequoia Dr....There is an open house now and I think tomorrow as well.

When you first posted the address Fiona I searched on Zillow and saw the listing from back in the fall of 2015. It became obvious based on your comments it had been purchased to flip because those early photos were of a sorely outdated property.

Here's the link to the new listing and it is quite stunning (as is the price tag). There's no question they did a great job on the renovation (at least shown in the pictures), the biggest concern is the price.

It sold in Oct of 2015 for $145,000 and is now double that. I know it's easy to blow through lots of money in renovations, especially if you do all new windows, doors, air conditioning and of course all of the cosmetic changes they did on the interior and exterior. And no one expects them to do it it for free. The only question is if you did it yourself (with a contractor), how close would the bottom line come out to what they are selling this for?

The good news is, this is a huge step up from the old days when flippers (often Realtor's) would low-ball a seller, slap a coat of paint and new carpet in and call it a remodel. There was one realty company in town who did that all too often and the last i heard he was enjoying time in a federal penitentiary. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

We toured some of those "cosmetic" flips and glad we were not snookered into buying one. I am simply blown away by the asking price. I hope they see daylight but not sure they will get a buyer for $300K without a lake view of some kind. I think this person is a self professed remodeler and seems to do a decent job of it. Just not the time to buy and flip to this degree I think. I think it is a fun house to walk through...I would love the shower lol. I will continue to watch with interest....

Very nice, but not $300K worth IMHO.
When we visited last we met a young couple that was doing these types of flips, saw two they did. One had slight floorplan changes and new appliances, the other was a drastic change with an open floor plan. Their idea was to upgrade the home to look more modern with the open floor plan that is so popular these days.
They asked our honest opinion... don't ask if you don't want to hear it!
We told them the wide open floor plan is not for everyone and that they opened up the kitchen too much. The one with only minor changes and fresh paint/flooring was more our style, and of course the price was more in line with what we were willing to spend.
The one they opened up was beautiful, but for us they ruined the original layout we liked... just our opinion because they asked. Also, the price was way out of line.
The wife argued their point of view over our opinion... nice enough folks, but we just wished them luck and walked away.

We rather like the late 60's feel to Sun City and kept our home in line with that era. Some I feel try to do what Trilogy and others are doing with newer homes and it just isn't always a great fit for all.

After we bought our home, I uninsulated all the real estate apps so I haven't been watching. J, on the other hand, really likes the stuff and continues to get the info. Often these past few weeks I will hear, "Holy cow, you aren th going to believe what the homes in SC are being listed for."
I'm glad we bought when we did.

I am seeing so many homes popping up around our house...have to wonder if they smell blood and want to cash in now lol. I don't think these huge spikes will last and I hope they do not. I like my lower taxes just fine and have no plans on selling. They are just not making any more Sun City developments like this one.
