In an article today in the Daily News Sun, it appears the West Valley Food Bank may be forced to move. Apparently the owners are courting a former Sun City retail store to go into the space. Jan and Dean's was a estate sale/used and new furniture store that vacated the La Ronde Center when it was purchased by Barnet Dulaney.

West Valley Food Bank has had a challenging summer and had fallen behind on their rent. They've managed to catch up, now just a half a month behind. That leaves the doors open for Jan and Dean and the center owners to move them out.

Jesse Ramirez was shaken by the recent turn of events and moving will clearly prove to be a hardship. They not only have the food bank their but their thrift store helps pay the bills.

You can read the article here.

It's a tough one E; there's not the kind of retail space out there Jan and Dean need in Sun City. There's little doubt, if they get that location there will be any number of folks who feel like you do...angry about displacing WVFB.

There's something tragic about the wealthiest nation in the world needing food banks to feed so many people don't you think?

The vacant Furr's Cafeteria/China Buffet at 103rd & Grand would be ideal for the food bank. Plenty of parking and food service set up. They would have to drop the Thrift Shop and save alot of money that way. I still can't imagine how they could sustain a $30,000 a month budget with the competing Banner Olive Branch just up the street serving Sun City Seniors.

Now that we have settled the golf cart-golf car controversy, let's tackle this one. It's not the West Valley Food Bank, it's the Valley View Community Food Bank.

That's correct. The "West Side Food Bank" changed names to St. Mary's Food Bank and is located in Surprise.

The only problem I'd have with Jan & Dean's moving to 107th & Peoria is that even more trucks will be parked in the north lot. I hope they don't bring along a moving truck/trailer rental business. Will be interesting to see what happens.
