Got a call yesterday from Pris Fenner (who does the docent/guide scheduling at the Del Webb Sun Cities Museum) and she asked me to work on the 21 of September. I was surprised and delighted to hear they were opening their doors on Wednesday, September 16 for the fall season. I suspect the record crowds will continue now that it is on the National Register. Fall hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday's from 1 to 4 pm. Special group tours are always welcomed with advance notice for hours other than what are posted. The McMillin Terrace is also available for small groups looking to hold a meeting and then tour the Museum. I hear tell the theater room is in the process of an upgrade with it becoming the mini-Sun Dome (and I do mean mini). The board recovered several seats before it was torn down and they are putting air conditioning in the small room off the back of the house. It's a great place to catch The Beginning, one of Sun City's best early years promotional video. Priscilla is looking for guides, so as those of stopping in and finding yourself taking a liking, think about becoming a volunteer there. A couple of days per month is all you need do, and it's a great way to come to understand the history of Sun City.
Is the museum going to be open this Friday? I would like to take my mom and my sister to see it. Thanks.
