Bell Rec Center ended up being way larger than anyone expected. Built in the 73 and 74 it far exceeded even John Meeker's grandiose plans. The cost overrun was what lead him to try and pinch on the Marinette plans.

With the Visitor Center located at Bell (across from the library) we get more than our share of first time visitors there. It's been a long standing lament we could/should do a better job highlighting all the center has to offer.

This past week as i was driving through i noted several (6 to be exact) new pedestal signs (one at every entrance). I stopped out of curiousity and was delighted with what i saw.

Rather than people wondering aimlessly about, each of the signs has a layout of all of the various clubs and activities listed. It's absolutely wonderful to see and I'm sure will be much appreciated by those who don't want to wander till they drop.

    Here's a couple of pictures:

You must have seen me on our first visit, a kid in a candy store.
Luckily the girls were disinterested on that first visit and kept me grounded, otherwise I would have wandered all about. As it was all I did was peek over a few fences and go into the visitor center which was really easy to find.

Were they wondering, or wandering? Too funny.

I love this story: Got a call years back from a tour operator who had 60 Canadian's staying in Scottsdale and they wanted to try lawn bowling. Shocked me because I thought all Canuck's knew the game. Said sure and they came over on the tour bus. The lawn bowls lasted less than a half hour (the average age was 75) and asked a bunch of them if they wanted to tour the Bell Rec Center.

We started out and about half way through one of them stuck up their hand and asked; "if we buy here and die, does the house go back to the community or do we own it?" I was stunned by the question, but it was brought on by our reasonable cost to buy into the community and all of the amenities they got when they did buy.

It seemed just too good to be true.
