All really great news and i am hopeful we can break free from the trappings of what was, to what can be. One of the problems with allowing anyone to stay in a position too long is they become ineffective and perform their duties more by rote. The new golf manager should come with energy, ideas and an open mind to setting Sun City on a course (pun intended) that attracts new home buyers to move here and play golf. We for far too many years relied on a small handful of golfers dictating terms and conditions from both a cost and a tee time preference. Disappointed to hear the TEG software is staying around, people tell me it is because it is the only system capable of booking five-somes. The fact it may integrate with the rest of the RCSC programs would be at least be a refreshing improvement.
How come I don't see that position advertised on the "Careers At Recreation Centers of Sun City Inc." website? https://suncityaz.hrmdirect.com/employment/job-openings.php
I am a bit confused, if there have been many applicants from all 9ver the country, why do we need a search firm, which is not cheap. The last search firm RCSC forked out a considerable amount of money were bottom drawer. I know how they work as one of my oldest friends worked for Korn Ferry for many years and I was periodically approached by search firms during my career.
GDV, Hope this provides you clarity; different processes for Golf and GM vacancies, from summary content in original topic post: • “Recruiting a new Director of Golf is progressing. There have been many applicants from all over the country. Phone interviews have occurred.” • “…when a new GM is hired. The board is making progress. The job description has been completed. They are deciding what recruitment firms will be used.”
It’s my understanding the board chose to hire Matthew D’Luzansky instead of the headhunter’s recommended candidate. Go figure!
It just kinda pisses me off how much money the RCSC wasted by hiring those Employment Agencies and then hiring from within! I think we all understand how and why we acquired Bill Cook, don't know about Matthew? Let's just hope that our next GM is someone who has the credentials and experience who can resurrect and return Sun City back to the community that Del Webb envisioned. Let's also hope that whatever the Master Planner determines what the future of Sun City needs to look like doesn't run into conflict with the views of the new GM.
I must respond to that. To my knowledge, the headhunter never made a recommendation on either of the two candidates. I have to remind myself, however, that I was not always on the "inside" of every conversation that may have taken place, so if you have better information than I did, well, then you know more than I did at the time. Hey Jean, hope all is well. Interesting comment and it would be curious to know exactly how it all went down/came together, i guess in the end it matters not. The biggest take-away has to be from the 2006 decision to let the general manager assume control to the degree she ultimately did, through her hand-picked replacement and finally hiring Matthew, we need to do better. The best news i heard was the board was rewriting the general manager's job description and duties. We all saw firsthand how unleashed control was ultimately a bad thing and when the board's oversight obligations fell by the wayside, the downward drift resulted in the myriad of challenges we now face. I've long argued the general manager's job in the first age restricted community in the country should be the plum a lot of younger applicants should be looking to pluck and serve as a resume builder. I also have argued it could also serve as an opportunity for someone who has paid their dues and wants a 5 year gig in a community with lots of challenges and is looking for a less stressful environment. I have no preference which one fills the position. My hope is the first thing they do is come to an understanding on the importance of our history and use it as a blueprint to re-invigorate the sense of community we were founded under and around. That's a tall task for anyone, as all too often the person hired comes in thinking they know it all, have all the answers. One word of advice to whomever is hired: Sun City, the community is too big, too complex, too diverse for a single person or even a board of nine to have every answer. Lean into the community and the collective knowledge of the membership, your job will become far easier.
