I don't know if it is legal or not, but I would be hard pressed to adequately fulfill the duties of an RCSC Board Director as a snowbird. Most of us who continue to be residents of our home states have commitments there as well. Perhaps someone would be able to do it, but it would take a very devoted person. However, I think it should be allowed since we pay the same assessments as year round SC residents. Let the voters decide.
And there-in is the answer Janet; only those who can or would be able to give of their time and expertise would step up. Some are gone as little as 4 months, some much longer. I can tell you 15 years back or so there was a board president who left for 3-4 months every summer and somehow we managed to survive (said with a smirk). If there is an upside, i suspect the days of multiple home ownership will be on the wane. The cost to maintain two properties grows daily and while those with unlimited wealth can afford whatever, that was seldom the case in Sun City. We had a lot of seasonal owners because we were cheap, not so much anymore and if we are to be honest, those days are long gone and won't be coming back any time soon.
Absolutely, but how do you do that when they don't even allow us to vote at our own meetings? I think we need to get a group together, off-grid, and compile a bunch of motions for the next Annual membership meeting. We can't allow the board to keep on stifling the things that the Members want. Will the revised bylaws be any better than the current ones? Perhaps we need to allow the few Members that do show-up at Membership meetings to pass bad amendments to make the rest of the Members realize that they too need to get involved?
