Read that Banner Olive Branch is going to have a program about hoarders. That's a topic in the news a lot lately. Wonder if there is really an increase or if just people are reporting it more. Have any of you ever known any?
We actually have a reletive who is a hoarder.... We havent been to his house in years, but the last time we visited there was just a single path through each of the rooms, and no place to sit down. I'm not sure what it is that causes someone to hold onto everything they have ever owned. At least this reletive does not allow the house to get filthy, only extremely cluttered, though who knows what may be lurking under the piles of stuff.
I knew a woman who had copies of National Geo stacked up in their original wrappers and they formed tunnels of sorts--at least that is what a friend told me after I had borrowed an issue and returned it sans wrapper and the woman freaked out and that's when the friend told me why.
I know a woman in NJ who wouldn't let me come by as she said her house was full of stuff--most likely a hoarder. Also, a good friend of mine hoards food--she has 30 large boxes of old cans, boxes, etc., of food in her basement. Her kitchen counters are stacked neatly from one end to the other. She has two pantries overloaded with food. She can get more food in a refrigerator and freezer that anyone on Earth. Her husband left her because she was so unmovable in her ways. Sad story.
Scary thing when you hoard cans of food which only last so long. We lived next door to a woman who hoarded and piled so much crap in her home and garage she had made a tunnel out to the garage where the kids slept. The state finally stepped in and took her children. I can't recall how many trucks it took to get the junk out.
I check items in my cubbard/frig every month. And toss those by code date. Do a google by code date for more info.
