Probably to keep the homeless out! They put a fence up at Lake View around the Woodshop Clubs outdoor vacuum system because the homeless were sleeping behind the equipment. Somebody has got to get a handle on this crap, I'm tired of it! I didn't like it when they put a fence up around lake area, mini-golf and Mercer Mountain. What next, will we be required to become a gated community????
You don't have to tell me. Stabbing 5 doors to the left of me and assault 6 doors to the right! Could be a song! Stealers Wheel - Stuck In The Middle With You (lyrics)
I don’t know about the gated community being an answer, but how about a community policing program? If we have money to continuously build fences, which presents another restriction to access the property in question, why don’t we form and pay for a type of policing enforcement entity to protect our community from further degradation? I know there is the posse, but their hours and ability is extremely limited. Could we not hire special sheriffs team members to provide additional enforcement officers within the community? A well trained team to help eradicate the problem of the non-residents roaming around in Sun City with the intention of making our community safer. If there is extraneous amounts of money being squandered on other people’s pet projects, I feel it’s time we have help keeping our neighborhood safe.
How much will that cost members. I live on ssi. If we are going to do that I would move to a city with a police department, mayor etc and not have the aggravation of RCSC. Assessment fee would go towards police dept. Would be a wash.
I would much prefer an increase in yearly assessments be for the betterment of the community as a whole and not a pet project costing more money. The assessment rate will certainly increase if plans for a Taj Majal center is advanced forward. And let’s be clear, how many people are going to benefit from a new theater? I feel an improved quality of life in the form of safer streets and less vandalism from a growing homeless population is in the areas best interest. Far more salient than a theater.
Someone started their post with "perfume on a pig" in the Sun City Website forum. Most of us don't want the PAC, but that's not how this place works now. We are not unique anymore. You can say cheapest and be right, but you can't say nicest, safest, or best 55+ community anymore. They are all over the country now. They are nicer, updated, yes more expensive. Those that can afford it will move to one of those. Driving through SC AZ is not a wow anymore. I have family in SC Huntly IL and drove through it and it was a wow. The Hilton Head SC is a wow. For the love of God this place is 60+ years old! The RCSC BOD is pricing us right out of our homes. You do realize there is 10% of the population here living below the poverty level? 3,700 households! Also when I checked homes for sale in SC there were 499 according to Realtor.com NOT including pending and contingent homes. But as SCR said so eloquently: Stop CRYING POOR MOUTH. If you didn't plan for inflation in any form you planned to fail. Last edited: Aug 18, 2024 SCR, Aug 18, 2024 I have seen comments about flippers coming in and upgrading home, and yes they look pretty but did they do the 60 year old wiring, or the 60 year old plumbing pipes? Doubtful and people hopefully realize that.
This community can be turned into the gem it once was if the board works with the resident owners and puts a lid on the amount of rental properties in the community. Renters have no buy in, making money for mostly absentee landlords. When amount of rentals exceeds 10% of the total units available, that sets a poor precedent for those of us who live here year around. Phase one looks like it has seen much better days. It has, but it will take the community to wrap its arms around the area, and find ways to improve the quality of life for those living there. There has been and always will be a certain segment of the population of Sun City that are living at a poverty level. Not a nice thing to say, but it has been a truth that has beleaguered the area. There are resources available for those in need, but they need to ask for the help. So many in need have been ignored because they refuse to ask for help or self identify as being in need. I used to work for DES and I know there are resources available to cover and support those in need. Pride doesn’t pay the bills or put food on the table. Working with a social worker gets things going in the right direction, but the help needs to be asked for. There is no need to be afraid to seek help and get answers. It’s a far better outcome than being alone with limited resources and no where to turn. While I can sympathize with the neediest people, most times these are the same ones that won’t accept help or even apply for it.
You don't get it and you never will. I called to apply. Difficult to get application. Was on a walker at the time and they said I had to come pick it up. I said no because of the ramps, asked them to email. They said no, a foundation board member would come pick me up and help me get there. At that point I wanted to scream. I asked if they would sign a document stating if I fell, etc that they would cover my medical expenses. One or two days later I think it was Kat, at my door knocking forever. No call she was coming. I was not dressed so I ignored. She left the packet in my door. I receive help from APS and all I had to do was submit my SSI W-2. My annual SSI income is right at poverty level. That was the only info they wanted. Same with a govt. program for internet that does not exist this year. When I looked at the application I started to search for the box to check to give them my first born. Then I found out volunteers have access to my information which concerned me and I mentioned it here. I was told no one gave a shit about me. I shredded the application. All that for a one time $500. It’s BS. I ran into some financial issues I am still paying off but I’ll be damned if I ever ask SC for anything again. Bill mentioned some had savings, and some have their homes paid off. So what? I am to take out a HELOC for $500? I have savings, I also have a 20 year old car that needs $5k worth of work and has bald tires, a golf cart that sitting in the garage because it needs a new carburetor and my A/C unit is 23 years old. Then you have the person I quoted above. I didn't plan! How in the hell does SCR know what happens in anyone's life?? Oh and the home visit? Over my dead body. Why is that necessary? Do they look for furniture to sell in lieu of giving you the money? Dig thru jewelry? What exactly are they looking for? If they want to see if someone is eating cat food send a social worker. The whole process is demeaning. If you weren't feeling bad enough for having to ask this process will take a person to new lows. Carole you should fall on your knees every single day and thank your God for what you have.
As I sit here, in my recliner, with 17 stitches in my ankle and in dire pain, I am so grateful to hear your words of encouragement. I will reiterate my statement there is help for those who seek it. People who expect something for nothing, such as yourself Josie, get exactly what they need, nothing. You seem to want it all your way, and on a silver platter. Life doesn’t serve it that way and for those that are struggling can get services they need. It’s a phone call away but the recipient has got to be a willing participant. Expecting something for nothing seems to be your mantra and do hope it works out for you. DO NOT reply to me anymore, I have blocked you and will not be seeing your drivel again.
Something for nothing???? Why is it there then? I have lived here for 20 years and have never asked for any help. I did not have anything to do with your injury so why even bring it up unless you are looking for sympathy. You know nothing about me yet you choose to judge me. I had cancer and got in a little bind. The Great Sun City was not here to help. Take care of you owie. A shot of Jack might help with the pain and the attitude. If you want a real eye opener join Nextdoor and check out the number of people who are in need.
