Please recognize that the recall is symbolic of the disfunction of a self-centered agenda driven board. The Board has erected an iron curtain around their power. How could anyone possibly get reasonably happy retirees to sign over 3,000 very intimidating looking affidavits (folks that is legally very significant) knowing that those in power would retaliate.

For some inexplicable reason that I will never understand, I was called as a witness. I witnessed the GM threaten the petitioners while the board was walking into a secret meeting with the architects.

That, I guarantee you, I will never forget or forgive.

    Best regards and God Bless,

So it's symbolic. That's it. Nothing will change anyway. So you all are wasting our time by having people run all over God's green earth for something that will change nothing. I don't think you realize the scope of unhappy residents. Well thank you for being honest.

So now we have Bill saying "The real tragedy here is so many fail to even begin to grasp that concept of building a sense of community". ie we are stupid, and you playing some kind of vengeance game I don't understand. "For some inexplicable reason that I will never understand, I was called as a witness." You were not called as a witness, you said you stopped by to see how the petition was going and saw the GM being his usual arrogant self. "That, I guarantee you, I will never forget or forgive." Good job. Way to bring the community together.

I have no clue what is happening here. I do know someone decided to move to SCW in 2020 (long before I was on this site Bill) due to the toxic nature of TOSC and the letters in the Independent. Sun City never had a reverse mode until around 2010 or so. It was always going forward. Now it is stuck in reverse and my personal opinion is it will stay there and just keep getting worse. The new boards over the years thought they knew it all. The members didn't matter. People screaming at meetings, money being spent like the government.

My own personal opinion is that every board member since somewhere around 2010 knew everything. Some tried to fight and were shut down, but still kept it all quiet and some just resigned. Things were posted here about SCF that were despicable. The members should have been made aware of what was happening. I believe 14 years ago there would have been a fight. Not now. We are old and want to enjoy what life we have left. A lot of us don't care now. I would love to have my 86 year old neighbor tell the stories of why he gave up back then. He is still sharp as a tack and I think it would be an eye opener for everyone. I will not ask him to waste his time tho.

There are so many assumptions, accusations, rumors, and downright lies being posted on this site. Have any of you, other than Bill, Jean and John, run for elected office and served on a board that made multi million dollar decisions in the public eye? I have and I can tell you that it takes time, effort, a very strong backbone, a thick skin and compromise. Bill lasted four years; Jean and John only a couple. On this type of board, you are asked to make hundreds of decisions. Some are easy; many are very hard. A person will study the issue, listen to constituents, understand both sides but the rubber meets the road when you have to vote "yay" or "nay". People will agree with most of your decisions but they will remember the one or two that they disagree with and hold it against you. Then you read the paper and comments that misrepresent what you did and said. It's a damn hard position to be in! That's why I support our current Board members. I don't know everything they do or agree with every decision they make. However I respect their commitment to our community and the time and attention they give to it.

That is not what I am saying. What I am saying is when the boomers moved here the board went from a generation of people who lived thru some tough times and understood money, pride of ownership and community. For whatever reason recent boards (going back 15 years or so) seem to have a personal agenda that is their main focus. That cannot be allowed. As tired as I am with posts about SC History I am going to repeat the face that it is my opinion folks who run for board positions here just don't understand. I was secretary of my HOA in Illinois. It was small, but rules still needed to be followed. Past boards did not do their job when it came to the GM's. Now SC is suffering. The road to hell is paved with good intentions as they say. I still say an independent company needs to come in and get the RCSC back on track. It would be well worth the money, and I would rather spend money on that that rather than an ASU survey that was ignored, or fees for a PAC design that is not a necessity right now. It's obvious that what is being done here is not working and the residents know it. Fix what is broken and then move on.

Mercifully i only served three years Janet; enough to last a lifetime. But few care about what was or who was; our history has taught us one simple lesson: Whomever the board members are, whomever the general manager is and irrespective of whatever activist groups have been formed over the years, it matters not. Sun City is far bigger, far more important an entity than any one person or any one action. Self-correction has always been in play.

Let me give a word of advice learned over a career of service in non-profit organizations where boards have always existed: The person in charge, be it the executive director, general manager or whatever term applied to the person running the show: The board should never be put in a bad light by that person's actions. Long before the shit show happens, the issue should be presented to the board and they should be the ones accountable for those things that create such disharmony in the organization or in our case the community. Letting the GM put them there is foolishness.

It's not rocket science gang, it's just plain old common sense.

The board hires that person and is responsible for their actions. It's the board's responsibility to make sure they are not put in a "bad light" by that person. If that is not true please let me know exactly how the hierarchy works.

I wasn't replying to you, Josie. It was a general statement to everyone. I agree that what is happening here is not working but it's not just this board, It has been going on for a long time. I think the current Directors are doing the best they can. I still oppose any decisions made behind closed doors.

I agree with both yours and Bill's last posts here. The Board needs to hold the GM accountable. This GM has more latitude in making decisions than I have seen in my Board experience. I don't think that is appropriate. From what Bill P tells us, this is nothing new for RCSC.

Agreed, but it seems like these last several years we are in a never ending cycle of self-correction?

I was just making a statement, nothing personal. My point, again, is if the directors are doing the best they can it's obviously not working and time for professionals to come in and help fix things. There are bunch of people in charge who all think they know best and fighting against each other while making residents angry will not have a positive outcome.

I can't argue with that! I recall hearing about a hospital that was in such poor stature that the Board had to come in and staff an office until things got turned around. I don't think that would work here. Professional advice may be needed here.

What scares the hell out of me about SC is I had my home appraised last Jan/Feb. I am always looking for homes and saw a home that could have been used as a comp for my home today. It was in phase 1, I am in Phase 2. It really upset me. Sending the listing to my realtor for input. With 481 homes on the market in SC NOT including pending/contingent (per Realtor.com) we should all be wondering what is going on.

Probably, or maybe just younger folks. A perfect example is a former board member at age 77 is acting like a 7 year old on this site. Why should we expect someone to act accordingly with the future of Sun City when they can't play well with others on a blog? Looking forward to comments.

    Hello folks,

Just got back from the boat parade of lights and witnessed firsthand what a city of volunteers can do when the Board and GM are only minimally involved. It was incredible! Both the Board and Management will take credit for the success of the parade even though neither had hardly anything to do with its success. I went to the visitor center today and saw what a great impression it left on visitors. How in God's green earth can a GM and Board member (s) suggest incurring the expense to move it when it is already in the perfect location.

Folks, sorry to say, this is pure insanity!

    Best regards and God Bless,

    John Fast

It was a nice parade and I enjoyed the Players reading of an improvised Christmas Carol with audience participation. Fun Christmas caroling, too. I missed the treats that were mentioned in the flyer.
