I HAVE BEEN ASKED TO POST THIS AS THEY HAVEN'T SUCCEEDED IN BECOMING MEMBERS OF TOSC. THE SYSTEM IS FIGHTING WITH THEM. THIS MESSAGE IS FROM THEM; I AM JUST THE MESSENGER. After 3 long weeks of fighting to have the Lakeview project tabled we were finally able to take the weekend off! We now have the opportunity to have input into the upcoming remodel of Lakeview. We deserve to be involved in any future decisions as lakeview owners have a vested interest. Our daily lives could be affected which is dependent on any future proposals to change the recreation center, our residential neighborhood and our natural environment. We know there is much work to be done in order to assure that we have a newly elected board who has integrity and ethics. Online voting begins today and we want to express our endorsements so that you may go online and vote today! Thank you for your Support! Faith and Phillip Putman, Members, Viewpoint Lake Home Owners We Endorse: Mike Ege (Proven Experienced Past Board Member) Rick Gray (Proven Experienced Past Arizona State Representative and Senator for Sun City) We are still actively recalling the following 4 board members: Chris Nettesheim (We do not Endorse as we have No Confidence and we are still actively pursuing a recall) Anita Borski (We do not Endorse as we have No Confidence and we are still actively pursuing a recall) Tom Foster (We do not Endorse as we have No Confidence and we are still actively pursuing a recall) Connie Richtmyre - (Is not up for re-election as she has a 2 year term remaining but we are still actively pursuing a recall for No Confidence) We are no longer pursuing a recall on: Steve Collins (Successfully made a motion to indefinitely table moving the PAC from Mountain view to Lakeview. Steve has a one year remaining term on the board.) Preston Kise (Unsuccessfully tried to make motions at the first reading to table the motion to move the PAC from Mountain view to Lakeview. Successfully seconded Steve Collins motion at the second reading to indefinitely table the movement of Mountain view to Lakeview killing the first motion made on November 11th. Preston Kise has a two year remaining term.) Jim Rough (Voted in favor of indefinitely tabling the motion to move the PAC from Mountain View to Lakeview. Jim Rough has a two year remaining term.) I don't understand why they want to recall Tom Foster. Tom was the only one who voted against the very first reading? Big mistake to recall Tom in my opinion.
I hope this is a wakeup call for all to get engaged in the future of Sun City. I am pushing for a Master Plan and would be happy to co-lead the effort to have a plan ready by the Members meeting in March. Members matter!
I hope that plan includes some sort of an idea on how to motivate the entire community to participate in all future decisions. Can you really blame the Board when they got elected by just a hair over 2,000 votes with a population of over 30,000? I think most of the blame is on the community and their lack of involvement.
I disagree with a new PAC right now. Fix what we have. That being said the people affected the most are the Putnam's and others who live near them. I am sure they paid a premium to live on the lake and now RCSC wants to put a 2 story building right there. That would be like purchasing a golf course home for the view and someone plopping a metal equipment storage building facing your lot. Is no one even looking at John's suggestion for the PAC at Sundial??? Is the board that bullheaded? Every time previous board members recommended who to vote for I would read, watch and most of the time vote for the others. I watched most of the candidate questions and Mike completely contradicted himself. The answer to one question was He would fully committed to the needs of the corporation. Later on he said he would be fully committed to the members/residents. Which is it? Then someone said he works full time, but no one asked how he could do both. I still have more to watch. The Putnam's have a valid point.
I have been reading and posting on this site for about three or four years. (Ever since the Board ousted Karen McAdam.) Hopefully some of you will listen to what I have to say. I am opposed to the recall petition drive. For one, the Board has voted to postpone any location of the PAC so it is a dead horse at this time. This petition drive will only harm RCSC overall and over time. People are tired of the controversy and chaos. As a new member of the SC Foundation, I believe it will hamper any of our fundraising efforts for RCSC projects. Who wants to donate to an organization where so many Directors have left for one reason or another and has a turnover of General Managers? We need direction and stability. Tom Foster, Anita Borski and Chris Nettlesheim have all worked tirelessly for the betterment of RCSC . They have the experience, talents and knowledge that RCSC so desperately needs. Therefore I am endorsing them for the election to the RCSC Board of Directors. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN THE PETITION! (If you have already signed it, you can ask to have your signature removed.) PLEASE VOTE FOR: ANITA BORSKI TOM FOSTER CHRIS NETTLESHEIM Yours truly, Janet Curry
Hello Janet, First, I want to thank you and the other members of the Advocates for being brave enough to disagree. Your tireless work on the bylaw committe was greatly appreciated. I also appreciate your continued engagement with the community. For full disclosure, I think all need to be aware that you favor having a PAC at Lakeview as do at least two of the candidates you are recommending. Also, for full disclosure I have worked with the recall committee because I felt that some of the actions of this Board have been ill advised and undertaken in a secretive manner unbefitting of those who owe a fiduciary duty to its members to engage them in the self-governance process. I continue to advocate developing a master "redevelopment" plan to guide us in major decisions. I am told our sister community is doing this and feel it is irresponsible to make major capital investments in an ad hoc manner. Best Regards and God Bless, John
Just finished reading the Independent. Both Anita and Chris are very much in favor of the PAC at Lakeview. Please take this into consideration before voting. After reading the article I am inclined to sign the petition. This is far from over. We still don't have the contract for the library back from Maricopa County. No update so we have to assume there has been no follow up. I don't trust these people to do what's right for the community. If it's this difficult to get an update weekly on the library, what do you think will happen with the PAC? I still think there will be no library at Fairway.
John, I don't want to get into a public disagreement with you, but this is what I wrote in an email I sent to you yesterday: "As I have said, I think some sort of theater/auditorium for live performances makes for a well rounded community, especially one of 30,000+. I have also stated that I think outside funding will be needed unless it is a multipurpose room. Mountain View is a potential site, but I believe a more central one on a larger campus would be better. Other than that, I really don’t have any strong opinions about it. I am not in any performing groups so I would not benefit personally." So you are incorrect that I "favor having a PAC at Lakeview". It is a possible venue as is Sun Dial, Bell and Mountain View. I realize that our shoreline is limited and priority should be to preserve it, as well as the view of the lake and Hilltop Park, for all members to enjoy. Since I live close to Lakeview, I spend a lot of time there and enjoy the view and walking at the park as much as anyone. My only hesitancy on having a PAC at Mountain View is that it is not centrally located and the site is quite small to begin with. However a multipurpose room with retractable seating is a possibility there. Your suggestion to add retractable seating at Sun Dial should also be explored. Bell is the largest campus. It seems there would be enough room there but a stand alone, single purpose building might not fit in our budget. I am open to all possibilities. Additionally I haven't had any conversations with any Board members about the placement of the PAC. In fact, I am having to think about which two Directors want it at Lakeview as you state. I don't know who they are. I don't think it is the role of a SC Foundation Director to make decisions about placement of amenities. Instead the RCSC Board would do that and the Foundation would then go about trying to find any additional funding that might be available to make it a better venue. If there isn't a PAC in our future, so be it. I agree that a Master Plan is essential for RCSC. In fact I thought that is what the Long Range Planning Committee is doing. I would be willing to serve on a task force to help with that but that seems to be the responsibility of the RCSC Board. Enjoy your Thanksgiving! Janet P.S. I resigned from the Sun City Advocates when I was appointed to the Sun City Foundation Board of Directors. I only attended a couple of their meetings last spring. Otherwise I only read their information and was not involved in their organization. I think they have dissolved the group.
SUN CITY LIBRARY TIMELINE TO DATE Facts Matter • D'Luzansky, without board knowledge, notified Maricopa County in February, that RCSC would not be renewing our Fairway and Bell five-year leases ending in June, 2024. • Maricopa County Library District officials informed The Friends of the Sun City Libraries, Inc. • Sue Blechl, President, Friends of the Sun City Libraries, “SAVE OUR LIBRARIES,” that effectively released the outrageous news to the community and unaware board directors. • RCSC Board of Directors called an URGENT meeting with Management. • Overwhelmingly show of community support demanding RCSC “SAVE OUR LIBRARIES” at the Member Exchange meeting April 8, 2024 •RCSC General Manager Matthew D’Luzansky Comments Presented at 4/25 BOD Meeting (May UPDATE edition) My mistake was working with the Maricopa County Real Estate Department that initiated the discussion with me in February, rather than dealing directly with the Maricopa County Library District. This has been remedied a couple weeks ago, when we had a great meeting with the Library District, and should have a new five year lease for both libraries, in the near future, and well before the current lease ends. • RCSC Updates: Library Lease, PAC Relocation, and Thunderbird Property Negotiations September & October UPDATE editions published this same information: Library Lease Still Under Review RCSC has been in ongoing discussions with the Maricopa County Library District (MCLD) regarding the library lease. The MCLD has submitted the latest lease document to their legal department for review. We will keep you informed as developments occur. • November Board Meeting The board informed members the new five-year leases for the community’s two public libraries had been agreed to by both the board and the Maricopa County Library District director, signed by RCSC and were now only awaiting signature by the county board of directors. “We finally received the okay from the county attorney’s office (to send them for signature) No additional updates known to me. If there are, please share credible, sourced ones. Thanks.
Janet, First and foremost, have a safe, happy and blessed Thanksgiving with your family. And a big thank you for caring about your community. I know I have made my position clear; RCSC should have a well thought out and communicated strategic plan for its recreational future the majority of members can be proud of and excited about before going forward with the expenditure of over $30M. There are many others who share that view. While I hear Board Members arguments that we can't please everyone, and we need to act now I can't help feeling those making the arguments are more concerned with controlling the outcome than they are about our future success. After considerable thought and research, I am of currently of the opinion we have the best and largest multipurpose performing arts venue of any 55+ community in the nation. IT EVEN HAS A BOX OFFICE! I recognize there are those that want a small and spectacular single purpose Performing Arts building with a "view" of the lake to enhance our performing arts. They argue that our multipurpose performing arts venue is already over booked with events that could not possibly take place elsewhere and is also not adequate for our theater group so it should not even be considered as a possible location for improvement. I also a big fan of expanding our sources of funds to enhance the community's recreational opportunities but I am like Jerry Maguire in that regard - Show me the money (and the amount). I can't understand the reasoning behind a $5 charge to drive a decorated golf cart in a community event??? While I personally restored the Museum's golf carts and restored a custom sleigh for the enjoyment of our community, I will not be participating in the Foundation's fund raiser. In that regard I am the opposite of Jerry Maguire - You lost me at hello. I will not give in to anyone's attempt to profit from Christmas. Again, have a wonderful Thanksgiving and thank you for advocating for what you think is best for our community. Best regards and God Bless, John
John, “I will not be participating in the Foundation's fund raiser.” The Sun City Foundation has nothing to do with organizing or hosting the RCSC Holiday Golf Cart Tour. Sun City Foundation is the designated recipient of “$5 recommended fee,” generated by the RCSC tour. THE RCSC promo graphic is misleading. November issue of RCSC UPDATE: • A $5 recommended fee supports the Sun City Foundation… • and support a great cause! Should have been clarified, “RCSC event $5 recommended fee will be donated to the Sun City Foundation.”
EWO - What is a "recommended fee"? A fee is either levied or it is not. And why would you ask patrons to pay RCSC a non-tax-deductible fee when they can contribute directly to the Foundation and claim a tax deduction? I will leave it at that...
John, you asked: • “What is a "recommended fee"? A fee is either levied or it is not.” Good question to ask the RCSC, their content, “$5 recommended fee.” See RCSC November UPDATE page 7 • “And why would you ask patrons to pay RCSC a non-tax-deductible fee when they can contribute directly to the Foundation and claim a tax deduction?” Another good question for RCSC, event organizers. Obviously didn’t consult SCF, the designated gift recipients, how best to benefit donors of the $5 recommended fee. “I will leave it at that...” Me, too! Holiday Golf Cart Tour is not a Sun City Foundation fundraiser. Have a peaceful day Giving Thanks tomorrow.
As a new Director of the Sun City Foundation, I was not aware of the Holiday Golf Cart Parade being a fundraiser for SCF. However it is a nice gesture. Thanks to whomever made those plans!
