You have the opportunity to RESPECTFULLY express your views on how RCSC has stated the board has approved to spend over $35m of your money over the next 4 years. The projects are:

Nine-hole Quail Run Golf Course renovations: 6 million ++
350 seat theater with an orchestra pit 14 million ++
Indoor Pooch Park 1.5 million ++
    Subtotal 21.5 million

Mountainview renovation (i.e. pickleball) 14.0 million

    Total 35.5 million

There are no other options for spending this money which the board has approved. Please state your opinion for or against.

    Best regards and God Bless,

    John

I was under the impression this was a "must" due to flooding

What is the justification for this? Who will use this other than The Community Theater performers here in Sun City? Why are the current PAC's obsolete? Community theater is not the draw it was 25-30 years ago, so what exactly justifies this expenditure rather than fixing what need fixing in the now. Wants and needs. My vehicle is broken, I need a new one, but I WANT an inground pool.

I don't know much about this one. Are things deteriorating? Do things need repair?

The Four Seasons originally recorded "Silence Is Golden" in 1964, and The Tremeloes covered the song in 1967:

You are correct, I was sort of guessing. My roommate at uni had a Tremaloes album that was a killer.

    John,
I'm confused. Where do we have the opportunity to " RESPECTFULLY express your views on how RCSC has stated the board has approved to spend over $35m of your money over the next 4 years. The projects are:"......

I've not seen or heard anything regarding the PIF. The last published paper that I have is located on the website under Finance and Budget Information.

You also have Pickleball listed above for $14M. When did that item come to be?

Jean - Perhaps it was wishful thinking that we could speak. While in the know, I calculated that the vast amount of money being spent on Mountainview was for pickleball. As you can see from my post I said $14m for Mountainview and then in parenthesis pickleball.

In 1964 The Tremeloes were the back-up band for Brian Poole. I have a CD of their stuff in my "British Invasion" collection.

PACK the AUDITORIUM at the Board meeting on Thursday, November 21st (9 am, Sundial).

Respectfully and civilly attend to show the Board how you stand on the issue of the PAC at Lakeview.

It's going to be a long meeting if someone is taking the time to actually make a presentation about the PIF Forecast Summary rather than just throw it into an Email blast with a lot of other documents. Don't we deserve explanations of what is happening with our money? I couldn't even find what the beginning balance was!

I read this by Rich Hoffer a while back and it has me wondering if it makes a difference what the members think or want:

Of course Board members should take the members into consideration on any issue. That has always gone without saying. But, the law and the corporate documents state very clearly, as you and I have discussed before, the Board works for the benefit of the corporation. And it's that way in every single corporation in America, bar none (including the RCSC). If I'm wrong, show me where, in our corporate documents and in ARS Title 10, it shows that, and I'm happy to change my tune. My aim here is not to get into arguments over the Board's duties, it's to educate. Period.

I agree that the Board has a fiduciary responsibility to the corporation, but along with that responsibility it also has the requirement, "To do anything and everything lawfully necessary in the interest of the Members of the Corporation,..." The decision to lock-in a specific location for the PAC at Lakeview, and based on the comments at the last meeting, not a single Member stood-up and commented that that location was in the interest of the Members! Quite the contrary.

The fiduciary responsibility doesn't just pertain to finances, it pertains to a legal obligation to act in the best interests of another party, rather than serving one's own interests. The Members are that other party!

Nobody at that meeting supported the location, and dare I ask, what happened to the Members best interest or the Boards fiduciary responsibility when they pissed away money on hiring an architect who developed Plan M only to ignore the Plan and hire a second firm? That's not being very financially fiduciary!

I get it, the Board keeps spinning its wheels on this issue, but too ramrod this motion thru when so many Members are still against it is mind boggling!

    Just my opinion!

It seems that statement has not been taken into consideration for quite some time. So we are not a true self-governed community at all, which has been the big selling point of Sun City. It appears that somewhere in the recent past our elected board members have become an external government authority with complete control.

Regrettably, here we go again. Recall petitions, lawsuits, board members alleging they were threatened, and a board totally disconnected from its members. I surmise that the reason this is happening is the same reason we had the first meltdown - a certain member of the board who is fanatical about pickleball is doing a back-channel land grab and making you scratch my back I will scratch yours deals behind closed doors. OK she is entitled to push her agenda but PLEASE roll up the curtain and show the members the plan she has been discussing with the architects for Mountainview pickleball. (She did the same thing with the architect hired to advise the SAC.)

Look, we are all in favor of moving forward with the Mountainview renovation but when the Players Club, which is the primary driver behind the PAC has almost nothing positive to say about the BOARD'S plan, I think that is a Defcon 3 situation. Others were even less positive.

I have racked my brain to find a face-saving way for the Board diffuse the situation they created but sometimes you just have to follow your heart and do what is best. The we must move forward with a plan no matter how bad explanation it is just does not cut it with me. Neither does hiding behind an architect that the board guided to a conclusion.

Regrettably, I will be manning the picket line, collecting signatures for the recall and researching legal options that can be used by members. I am heartbroken that it has come to this again after all the pain and suffering I went through to make meaningful change. You will never convince me that the sacrifice is not worth it. When you know you are right you have to stand your ground no matter what sacrifice it entails.

    Best Regards and God Bless,

    John

Unfortunate and maddening all the way around. Again, very sad. This Board's nickname may become the Bulldozers.

I feel this board wants to change everything for the sake of a change. Not good enough reasoning when you are so right, we already have buildings we can renovate. I wonder if this board ever thought of the quality of life situation that residents want. Just being able to go outside each day and enjoy our few open and lovely spaces for us to enjoy. Why is tearing everything up, and building large buildings going to enhance our quality of life. I live here in AZ because of the many sunny days, being able to go to Lakeview, walk the grounds, bring my relatives, and simply enjoy the easy and beautiful scenery we originally created. Messing with that, will change our way of living forever. No architect is going to listen and affirm this position. As residents we have to push back on this or we will loose the community for sure. We can build a PAC, but not in front of our lake park.

I hope the RCSC Board can explore John F's recommendation to use the Sun Dial Auditorium with retractable tiered seating for performances or the corner of 99th and Hutton at Bell for a potential PAC. I originally thought Lakeview was the best place for a PAC but on the corner of Thunderbird and Del Webb or as part of a complete remodel. The limited amount of lakeshore that RCSC owns, we shouldn't be building a two story building on the lawn bowling courts. Just my opinion.

John, regarding Quail Run, flooding is one of the problems due the irrigation being crushed over 40+ years of soil compaction, but also this project is a big part of the water reduction plan filed with the “State Water Dudes.”
It is beneficial for that and maintenance of one of our amenities.
