How about Tropical Fish! Love African Cichlids! Colorful and very independent. But they arrange the aquarium the way they want it!

Dogs are my favorite but not those little yappy dogs that snap at you. Big dogs are great especially Golden Retrievers. They are such loveable dogs.

I am on the fence trying to decide whether or not to get a cat.
It just might be good company.
What is the main problem/concern having a cat?

For sure I am going to stop by PAWS near Sun City and look at the selection.

I had a dog named Lassie and met the original "Lassie" from the movie when I was in Big Bear California.
Even have a picture to prove it.

Dogs....definitely dogs, but I have had cats and enjoyed them. I've just never only had cats...smallest dog I've had....hmmm....a toss up between the Shih Tsu and the Cavalier King Charles spaniel, which I have 2 of now. Largest dog....a 150lb St Bernard.

    I like Medium size dogs -- 50-70 lbs. ! !--been a dog owner over 40 years !

I have also had cats... if you have a cat --they can keep scorpions away... Cats can see them at night and are ammune to their sting. just an FYI
    :love_heart:
Also -- have had a variety of turtles, snakes, and hamsters and even an African Tarantula spider ---all lived in separate large aquariums (natch).

We like our dog and miss our Mastiffs very much. We also have one 24 year old African Grey parrot that keeps us entertained. I had Koi ponds in the past and miss them, but do not miss the work it took to clean those big ponds. We now have a tiny fish pond in our front entry which satisfies my fish fetish.

We had thought about putting in a fish pond, our neighbor offered to feed the fish while we are gone in the summer, but I wondered how well the fish do in the really hot weather.

If you dig your pond deep enough...about 3 feet or more, they do just fine with a small running waterfall feature. They are actually a cold weather critter and do better in cold climates. I see some of these shallow plastic ponds that Lowes' and H.Depot sell and the poor fish do not do well when they become larger. Mine did fine at our other house but we dug over 3' down and had a huge waterfall running all the time and my fish here are doing ok with our smaller pond. If you have some algae growing on the sides you do not have to feed them when the temps are very hot.
