“So what?”

I know many of you are hugely big fans of the second amendment. We hear it often from those who are concerned about big brother breaking into your home and taking your guns. Hell, we were told point blank that was exactly what Obama was going to do. Ya, nope never happened, never came close.

With that cleanup out of the way, let's set this whole thread up with a lessor cited of our amendments, the 6th. For those of you unfamiliar with it; here it is: "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation.

Here's a simplified version for those who like it easier to read: "It gives citizens a series of rights in criminal trials. They include the rights to a fast and public trial by an impartial jury, to be aware of the criminal charges, to confront witnesses during the trial, to have witnesses appear in the trial, and the right to legal representation."

Pretty straight forward and the most basic of concepts is for the accused to have the right to a speedy trial. Citizens wrongly charged want their day in court; quickly. They want their name cleared and they want to get on with their lives. Simple concept for most.

Yesterday a bombshell was dropped. Judge Chutkan released some of the heavily redacted transcript from Jack Smith's response to the Supreme Court's ridiculous findings regarding trump's actions during January 6.

I've read numerous summaries and highlights and i must say, even i was shocked by how bluntly revealing they were. Holy buckets it was not a good look for the former president. We'll cover a lot of that later in this thread.

It does appear that trump didn't take the release all that well. Based on his truth social posts, his pudgy little fingers and thumbs were working overtime. Having read a couple of them, it looks like he needs a sedative or something to keep his blood pressure down. I know Dr Ronny Johnson (or is it Jackson? Who knows, even trump can't figure it out), said he is in perfect health but last nights bleats were scary. I'm worried for him.

With all of that out of the way, let's break, i know some on the right hate too many words. I will close with this caveat we all need remember: "Everyone is innocent until proven guilty." Which kind of makes me wonder why trump didn't exercise his right to a speedy trial?

 

As to be expected, my good friends on the right want to pretend Jan 6 didn't happen, or that it was just another group tour that got a little more wild than expected. Then there's those who see the criminals who desecrated our Capital as patriots and heroes. The whitewashing of the hideously horrendous day is shameful. The simple truth is it happened for one reason, trump called them to Washington in hopes they could help him overturn the election. Full stop eh?

We know it didn't work and we know the one man who stood his ground; Mike Pence has been vilified far and wide by the trump mob and worse yet, the president himself. Before we go there, let's look closely at the man who had trump's back more so than any other. Pence carried his water, stood by his side through all the crazy nonsense he spewed for four years. Think not? How about a quick video replay of the most pathetic display of narcissism ever witnessed. The date was July 12, 2017. Seated around the massive table were cabinet officials and others who had to take turns heaping praise on his greatness I've never seen trump more pleased as one after the other took turns kissing his ample backside.

The tragedy of this video is nothing compared to what trump did and said about his vice president.

 

First the date is 6/12/17. This was POTUS 1st cabinet meeting. All took their turn to explain what they were doing and thanking POTUS for their appointment to the cabinet. It's a normal occurrence for every new POTUS to do this. What was ugly? Did you post the wrong link? The only odd thing I see on this forum is you Bill. As far as ample backsides go, we all know you like yours kissed, and for those that don't you ban them when you are admin of a site. In that respect you and Trump are a lot alike, you both can be crass, ruthless, however the difference is he has compassion and kindness. You can tell by the way he interacts with his grandkids and the folks in disaster situations.

So let's get to the heart of the matter, trumps blatant disregard for his vice president's life. Mike Pence was unwilling to ignore his constitutional obligations and bend to his bosses wishes to pretend he had the authority to stop counting the legally submitted state election totals. The goal was for all of the violence to create cover to insert fake electors in states which would have sent the charade back for the house to decide.

Kudos to Mike Pence for doing the right thing. I guess the donald didn't see it that way. The paragraph below was from Jack Smith's refiling and was released by Judge Chutkan (please note, not the DOJ):

But it is Constitutional to challenge the certification of the Electoral College and, in fact, the Democrats do it every time a Republican wins the presidency!

Representative Jamie Raskin has already stated that he would challenge the 2024 election if Trump wins!?!?!?

Look, the Republican's had concerns over the 2020 election, and a member of the House made a challenge and it was supported by a senator, which was the requirement at the time. At that point, Pence had every legal authority not too immediately certify, and take the time to investigate the challenge accusations before he certified the results.

Now, of course, the Dem's have changed the rule on challenging the results of the Electoral College because they believed they will win the next election and want to make it harder for the Republicans to challenge!

PS. Every legal scholar of note said the actions of alternate selectors was illegal and in fact 3 or 4 of the six states of fake electors have been charged for their actions. Seems they elected to add the necessary language to protect themselves,

That's one! The Left also challenged the 2004 when Kerry lost and 2016 when Hillary lost!

The 2000 election challenge was mandatory due to a Florida State law.

The 2004 was challenged by Rep. Stephanie Tubbs and Barbara Boxer.

The 2016 election was challenged by Sheila Jackson Lee.

And if Trump wins in 2024, Representative Jamie Raskin has already stated he will challenge certification.

I don't believe that's a decision that has yet been determined in a court of Law! Those cases are still pending.
