The problem with following news sights that just tell you what you want to hear is you become one dimensional in your thinking. The even bigger problem is the information to refute the foolishness they spew is readily available. Lanford's bill, in its entirety is available but let me just post HIS three page summary for readers:

    Page 1.
    BORDER SECURITY
    POLICY PROPOSAL
The new border security authorities will put powerful new tools in the border security toolbox of any
administration willing to secure the border. It will also set real limits on the current administration to
stop the abuse of parole and prevent our nation from ever having 10,000 people a day crossing
illegally or a record month like December 2023 again.
ENDS PAROLE CATCH-AND-RELEASE FIASCO AT THE BORDER
Ends Biden’s use of catch-and-release through the CBPOne app to hand out work permits for free along the
    southwest border.
The definition of humanitarian parole is clarified to stop the daily flagrant abuse of the authority at the border.
This change alone will stop over half-a-million border crossings every year.
MANDATES A COMPLETE SHUTDOWN OF THE BORDER
Creates a new mandatory Border Emergency Authority that will protect our nation from having another
month like September, October, November or December 2023, when more than 10,000 people a day
    crossed the southern border.
The new Border Emergency Authority is even stronger than the Title 42 Authority used during the Trump
Administration because it also includes new legal consequences for anyone who tries to return after
    deported.
No more massive caravans of migrants flowing over the border day after day.
Allows law enforcement in America to control the border, not the criminal cartels in Mexico.
Changes the default when the border is overrun from releasing everyone into the country to deporting
everyone out of the country. When the average number of crossings exceeds 5,000 people a week (which it
has every week but one in the past four months) everyone crossing illegally everyday is rapidly deported out
of the country without an asylum screening. In the past four months almost a million people have crossed our
border. If this law had been in place four months ago, all of them would have been deported out of the country,
rather than released into the country.
When the border closes, it stays closed and everyone is deported every day until the number of people
crossing illegally drops. Once the number of encounters drop, the border continues to stay closed for up to
an additional two weeks to continue to drive the numbers down; It closes the border when we exceed our
capacity to detain and deport so no one is released into the US because of the crowd

The even bigger problem is the information to refute the foolishness they spew is readily available. Lanford's bill, in its entirety is available but let me just post HIS three page summary for readers:
    Page 2:
    IMPOSES IMMEDIATE CONSEQUENCES FOR
    ILLEGAL CROSSING
Removal is carried out in days or weeks, not years.
Prevents the administration from handing out work permits for simply crossing at a port of entry.
Provides 50,000 detention beds, more ICE agents, more deportation flights, and more asylum officers to
keep more people in custody while processing.
If 50,000 beds is not enough to hold people during their processing, a new expedited removal authority is
created which allows for faster processing and fewer appeals outside of custody in weeks, not years. No
more 10 year releases in the US before their hearing.
REVOLUTIONARY CHANGE IN THE ASYLUM SCREENING
Prohibits illegal migrants who could have relocated within their home country from being eligible for asylum in
    the US.
Bars criminal aliens from getting through the first asylum screening at the border.
Bars any alien that re-settled or could have re-settled in another country on the way to the United States.
Raises the standard for evidence of persecution to the higher Trump Administration’s “reasonable possibility”
standard. This alone will dramatically reduce the number of people allowed through the asylum screening
    process.
Combines three separate screenings to make the process faster at the border: Credible Fear (asylum),
Convention Against Torture (CAT), and Withholding of Removal. This will quickly send illegal migrants who do
not qualify for asylum back to their home country, instead of being released into the US for seemingly endless
    appeals and hearings.
Each of these changes would reduce dramatically the number of people eligible to even apply for asylum, but
together they will be a powerful tool for any administration willing to enforce the law.
PROVIDES NEW EXPEDITED REMOVAL AUTHORITY TO
ENSURE ILLEGAL MIGRANTS ARE REMOVED WITHIN 90 DAYS
Currently, most illegal migrants are processed without screening, released into the interior for 10 or more
years, and placed into a 3 million case backlog—that ends with this bill.
The new expedited removal authority ensures that every illegal alien who crosses the border is either
detained or tracked. Some family groups are hard to detain, so those groups will have alternative to
detention, fast hearings and one limited appeal.
Those who do not qualify will be removed.

Lanford's bill, in its entirety is available but let me just post HIS three page summary for readers:
    Page 3:
    BUILDS THE WALL
Provides $650 million to build and reinforce miles and miles of new border wall.
It also withholds the majority of the wall money to be used during the next administration.
RADICAL CHANGE FROM CATCH AND RELEASE
    TO ENFORCE AND DEPORT
Increases Border Patrol recruitment and streamlines hiring.
Funding for more ICE Agents and ICE detention beds.
    Funding for effective mandatory monitoring.
Funding for ICE removal operations (flights and buses back home).
Uses direct hire procedures to increase ICE deportation officers and enforcement and removal
personnel to ensure that illegal migrants can be quickly repatriated to their home countries.
    PROHIBITS CRIMINALS FROM OBTAINING ASYLUM
Under current law, a criminal alien could wait 10 or more years in the asylum backlog before being denied
    and sent home.
Rather than allowing these criminal aliens to be caught, released, and remain at large in the US this bill
will deny and deport these criminal aliens immediately after they cross the border.
THE NEW BORDER SECURITY BILL DOES
NOT INCLUDE AMNESTY OF ANY KIND.

Really hope this will help open your eyes to the importance of solving the immigration challenges we are facing.

Yeah, and you know that many border crossings are being bypassed because Biden is flying them in directly from other countries!

Now to your kind of a question about what do i call someone who votes for an administration that has allowed the immigration problems to continue (because that's what this really is, isn't it Tom?).

    I call them conscientious.

My answer is steeped in logic and here's why. Anyone with at least one living brain cell knows and understands the immigration problems has no easy fix. They never have or they would have been fixed years ago. I've worked with any number of Latino's who came to this country, both legally and illegally. In many cases, employers looking for cheap help bussed them in. I also know the vast majority i represented were hard working men and women who kept their head down and wanted no problems that would get them booted out of this country.

But let's not kid ourselves, my small size samplings is hardly the gauge we should use. The data (there's that dirty word you hate again) that is readily available is out there. But alas, much like the data regarding "voter fraud," it quickly shows the reality that doesn't fit the narrative trump/vance are spewing. Cats and dogs, eaten indeed.

I look carefully at trump's proposal of rounding them all (11 million to 25 million) up and sending them packing. One the logistics are nonsense, but even more fascinating is the fact the country would collapse in a New York minute. The proposal is simply laughable at best and has no chance of ever happening. Sorry, none. It would become another "build the big beautiful wall and make Mexico pay for it." Pure red meat for the fan base.

On the other hand is Harris's proposal to revisit and quickly pass Lankford's bill, and it is sheer genius. And let's be clear, that's just a starting point. I want to vote for politician's who understand the problems and then has realistic plans to fix them. Her move to a more moderate position is based on listening to voters, including the large number of republicans who are supporting, endorsing and voting for her.

    So, my answer is "conscientious."

When you look at Bill's posts do your eyes cross? Mine do. Too old to get the concept 'less is more'.

And anybody with half a brain knows that when you promise people free stuff, and make no attempt to close the border, your inviting them all in.

Fixing that certainly wouldn't completely fix the problem, but would certainly be a good start.

As far as deportation goes...those illegal gang members and bad guys will eventually reveal themselves and those will be the first ones to go!

I find myself curious by the dumbing down of American's. This penchant to not read anything other than meme's. truth social, X and headlines from fake websites is tragically sad for all of us. It's created a class of folks who really don't want to know anything and simply be told what is going on. I give credit to Tom who often writes more than 6 words and a link to some worthless piece of tripe. Obviously i don't agree with him, which is why when he throws something out, i don't just badmouth it (as he does me).

Like i said in an earlier post, information and data is readily available. The Lankford summary is classic. It wasn't a "liberal's" take on the world, but the reality of what was negotiated in good faith to fix a problem. trump, in true trump fashion, crapped all over and killed it. Sorry, that just the facts of life.

I read a lot, sorry apparently my bad. Just this morning i read this fascinating story about the GOP on the Bulwark: "Ripon is the birthplace of the GOP; gatherings in a one-room schoolhouse there led to the formation of the Republican party in 1854." I didn't know that and i find knowledge to be a powerful tool to help argue one's point of view.

But, here's the rest of the story (with a nod to Paul Harvey): "Today, former Rep. Liz Cheney, who served as the vice chairwoman of the House January 6th Committee, will campaign with Vice President Kamala Harris in Ripon, Wisconsin. Cheney announced weeks ago she would be voting for Harris, and she later said her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, would as well."

Here's the real kicker with a shout out to A B Stoddard for this summary of the article: "It’s a fitting place for Harris to make a direct appeal to Republican and independent voters, and both she and Cheney will speak to the danger of re-electing Trump."

Knowledge is good, embrace it, don't fear it. Just one' man's humble opinion.

I could not care less (as opposed to you always saying "I could care less" makes me wonder how much less you could care? A little, a lot?) what you think of me. I thought you would appreciate that young lady, she has the same mindset as you.

Good on you staying true to your core JP. Endless X posts with no substance and headlines from meaningless websites. Let's have some fun and start a new thread entitled "So What!" Should be fun as we delve into the mind of trump around J-6. Shocking the latest revelations eh?

So if Vance’s facts are correct about 25 million illegals, and Biden is responsible for 11 million, the simple math says that Trump is responsible for the other 14 million. You numbers evidently don’t lie.

Who freaking cares? Seriously Tom, aren't you concerned even a little bit about the fact the one guy who carried trump's water for 4 long years was treated the way he was? Oh wait, we haven't started that thread yet, have we.

It deserves it's own special placeholder so we can fully digest Judge Chutkan's decision to release segments of Jack Smith's response to the Supreme Courts ridiculous non-fact, non-constitutional findings.

I guess that line from A Few Good Men jumps off the page eh Tom?

Please tell me you are not this ignorant. You do understand the DOJ rule about no election interference within 60 days of an election? This was done on purpose. Democrats will break the law any way they can. It would not surprise me one bit if this administration was working with Iran to kill Trump. They will do anything to stop him. Judge Aileen Cannon’s ruling that Smith was illegally appointed and that he therefore lacked the authority to bring the prosecution.

Sorry but it wasn't the DOJ that released the document, it was Judge Chutkan...you do know the difference...right?

By the way, Cannon will be displaced for her inability to follow the law by the circuit court. But that's just my projection based on he articles i have read. I suspect your X posts and memes have said otherwise.

    Time will tell eh?
