I'll ignore the dribble and get to the one person i thought was smarter than the other two. I guess becoming a trumper means you have to ignore all reality and just eat his shit sandwiches. There's nowhere in my post did i disparage those killed in Afghanistan. In fact, Janet feel free to point it out, i'll wait patiently while you copy and paste.

My post, if you had actually read it, was in response to Tom claiming Afghanistan was far worse than January 6. The exact reason for the header; moral equivalency. The two were both tragic events And they were wholly different. There is, was no comparison.

Let's recap: Afghanistan was orchestrated by a terrorist organization (the one trump negotiated the withdrawal with) who had a suicide bomber come by the airbase and blow both Afghan civilians and American soldiers to pieces. Tragic and it has happened so many times in in that region.

On the other hand, we had a seated and defeated president of the United States call for his supporters (thugs) to come to the capital and inspired them to try and tear it down. The end game has been exposed and had it not been for Mike Pence, the now convicted fellon might have pulled it off.

The goal was the fake elector scam/scheme to displace the legitimate votes cast by the American voters. John Eastman and company are all finding their foolishness is coming at a cost. Prison would be too good for them. The reality is trump lost but because he told his maga followers he didn't, they drank it with the rest of the kool-aid.

So you tell me Janet, as an intelligent woman, which one was more offensive: 1). A group of crazies in Afghanistan who killed innocent people with a suicide bomb, or 2). The president of the United States leading a group of his most faithful to march on the capital and try and steal an election he had lost with total disregard for life limb and the liberty of this country?

Moral equivalency indeed. One was God awful; the other criminal (as trump will one day find out).

This is the truth about the withdrawal from Afghanistan:

Trump was President in 2017

Dec. 2018 Trump announces 7,000 troops (50% reduction) will be withdrawn around the new year.

Feb 29th 2020, Trump and the Taliban sign an agreement based on the U.S. commitment to withdraw in 14 months.

Target date for withdrawal was May 21st, 2021 but the Afghan government was not party to the plan and did not support it because they refused to establish a power-sharing plan with the Taliban. That left things up in the air.

Nov. 2020 Trump’s acting Defense Secretary; Christopher Miller announced the order that on Jan 15th 2021 they will reposition the troops but 2,500 troops will still remain.

Biden, being the President at the time, and with the Afghanistan government not agreeing to Trump’s initial withdrawal plan, was free to determine his own plan for withdrawal, which he did.

On April 14, 2023 President Biden announced that all troops will be out of Afghanistan by Sept. 11th, the 20 year anniversary of 9-11.

That delay triggered the start of the collapse of the Afghanistan National Security Force. Shortly thereafter the Taliban acted by taking over the Afghanistan Presidential Palace.

August 26th, 2021, an ISIS Terrorist wearing an IED detonates the device killing 13 American service men and women along with injuring 170 others.

Among those injured was Marine Sniper, Sergeant Tyler Vargas Andrews, who lost a leg and an arm in the explosion. Sgt. Vargas was not invited to be interviewed by the Pentagon during their investigation, but he did testify during the House Foreign Affairs Committee and testified that he had the terrorist in his sights but could not get approval from the chain of command to shoot the terrorist.

When the mother of Marine Cpl. Hunter Lopez, who was killed in the blast, was interviewed by CNN’s Jake Tapper, she told him that the report the families received from the Department of Defense was lacking accurate information because they failed to interview important people who were actually there, like Sergeant Tyler Andrews!

Of course the sanitized report that was finally released stated that the event was not preventable, and in actuality the wrong person was the one being identified by Vargas.

Based on the many fabricated stories released by our government that has ended-up being proven to be not true, I take this final report with a grain of salt, but 13 brave American soldiers and sailors are still dead.

I also don't understand how Kamala is a legit candidate. She was installed without ONE vote. When did I miss our Constitutional Republic changing into a federal presidential republic under an authoritarian dictatorship?

 

I don't equate the two: J-6 was a criminal act perpetrated by president trump while the tragedy in Afghanistan was perpetrated by terrorists in another country. Dang, that's not all that hard to get your head around is it?

But, to your main concern hipster, you must have missed the musical tribute role call vote from each state. It was awesome and dare i say the JOY in the room was overwhelming and contagious. Apparently you still can't you get your head around the long term damage that was done to the credibility of United States and military because of the way we left Afghanistan? It will take decades for other county's to gain our trust again.

Honestly Tom your opinion of the damage done by the withdrawal from Afghanistan means as much to me as your opinion regarding a stolen election in 2020. Not much. As the election grows closer, let's see who the professional's get behind when it's crunch time. I know where my money is but as always i'm open minded to those who have the pulse on the national security of our country.

The "silos" of partisanship in this thread are suffocating. Some of you appear to have lost the ability for rational thought, sensible discussion, and the lack of civility sadly reminds me of children squabbling.

Believing something doesn't make it true. People once believed the world was flat. Most of us probably believe a President had sex with Lewinsky and Mexico didn't pay for the wall... but it took time for a majority of people agree on those "facts". Some still don't. If you asked me what I know about a horse and I only ever stood in one spot and observed the horse from the front I'd tell you it is only a head and front legs... and if you only ever observed it from behind you'd tell me it was just legs and an ass. (If you ONLY get your info from a particular set of partisan sources, feel free to catagorize which see the head and which see the ass... then try to complete the picture it in your mind. You'll soon see that too many heads or asses distorts what you see).

IMHO we can't prosper as a country when 1/3 the people believe something is a head and 1/3 believe it's an ass and the remaining 1/3 choose not to look at all. We need to discuss rationally and try to see the other guy's point of view... not just yell, denigrate, and declare your own truth to be THE truth. Telling someone something is true doesn't make it true to them until they also think it's true. Nor vice versa. Politics is full of lies and half truths and out of context information claimed as factual... full of people telling you what THEY say is TRUE, even when it's not. Lenin one said if you tell it often enough people will believe it's true. How are you going to decide whether the horse is head, ass, or some combination? Certainly not by using the uncivil tactics several posters in this thread are using.

I just love, absolutely love the way Harris/Walz is directing the narrative of their campaign. We all heard how trump needed to define her and yet his repeated attacks are falling flat. If anything, it makes him look weak and pathetic. Race...sure. Gender...sure. Education...why not? None of it is working as she has now focused on rural Georgia and meeting with voters face to face. Got to love the intimate nature of meeting voters where they live.
