I found this interesting. A thread from 2013 is still being talked about in 2024. Things never changed. Same issues and topics over an 11 year time span that never came to fruition. I bet a person could find many more threads that were just rehashed over and over.

I read this thread yesterday and it shows/proves/explains what I have been saying for years. The concept of a meeting area for coffee to share thoughts etc. has been going on within this site for 11 years. What has this, like any other social media site accomplished? Nothing. It's not your parent's Sun City anymore. There was talk on that thread about helping people keeping their house looking nice. Hell they JUST DIDN'T PLAN did they SCR. PPP as my hubby used to say. Restaurants closing and thrift stores leaving are due to the internet according to Bill. I have never shared a meal on-line. I do not buy furniture on-line. All the used furniture shops are gone. I have no clue what will happen to SC, and pretty much don't care. Open your eyes and look around! Maybe there is a reason SCW and Grand removed the Del E Webb from their name. It's old. antiquated, tired and obsolete. Who wants to be associated with that?

Come down to Phase 1 we have several thrift shops and the Lutheran Thrift Shop sells furniture. They are located at 107th & Peoria. It’s across from Fairway.

Funny to read that thread, esp. bec. this section was one I wrote:
"Well, you already touched on one thing we lack: a community center, a hub. But there are so many other possibilities and that's why I nudged you in the other thread about maybe holding a brainstorming session similar to that re-visioning the Foundation one. I think more strategizing about how to get people more involved is needed. I heard you were going around to chartered clubs to get input and share info, so more of that is needed in some way for the residents. The Villages in FL uses a village concept within their "City" to create more community feel. Strategies like that are ones we could examine to bring back the neighborhood feel that most of us left behind in one way or another and would like to reinvent in some way here. As people feel more vested, more exciting things will evolve, but conditions need to help stimulate that (ex: yes, creating an incubator for interaction like a community center is part of that)."
I've attended RCSC meetings and brought this before the board, and for awhile there were a few folks on the board that may have helped get things moving in that direction, but they wound up resigning. For the life of me I can't understand why the powers that be don't seem to understand community building.....

Was recently at the Lutheran thrift store. It looks like a dumping ground for every item that didn't sell at SC estate sales. SHF Resale was awesome, but it's in SCW now. The two resale stores in the Ace Hardware center are gone. Monty's is gone.

For the life of me I can't understand why residents don't get that we have no say about what happens in this community. This idea started in 2013 was still being bantered about early in 2024 on this site. The board does not care. It was an awesome idea. The dog park was a good meeting place too. Used to go around 2018 or so, there was a small group who would pick up after the dogs whose owners wouldn't. That got old fast.[/QUOTE]
