I think you are confusing the Duffeeland Dog Park with the indoor room requested by Best Friends Dog Club Sun City AZ. This group does canine training classes and has nothing to do with the dog park. BFDC has quite the membership and it's not a "folly". Maybe go back and reread some of the conversations.

Using the data, making a choice pits residents north of Grand vs. south of Grand.
I think most would be equally upset losing either one as much as losing both!

According to numbers provided by Sue Blechl, in 2023:

Fairway had 52,221 visitors, 87,232 books checked out, 713 new library cards issued and held 45 programs attended by 1,044 residents.

At Bell, there were 93,839 visitors, 276,752 books checked out, 1,587 new cards issued and 164 programs serving 1,466 residents. In addition, she said, the 22 computers with free Internet were used daily.

    Maybe you should reread:
“I have removed. Source had provided
    OLD press release. SORRY…”

That source copy/pasted this from RCSC website that had no date on it. Source did not provide the link.
This is where they found it:

In regards to the suggested confusion around the dog CLUB versus Duffeeland, I was on the board at the time the expenditures described were asked for and approved. I may have notbeen active on this thread recently, but I do remember the behind the closed door board meetings and the many hours deveoted to numerous topics. It was an expectation to be available 6 hours or longer for these meetings andI remember quite a bit of what clubs asked for and what they were given.

I along with Bill Pearson and others from the community putting forth a great deal of effort for the Duffeeland Dog Park. I also have several memories of having open meetings for input from the same membership that supports that area. I still support their existence and determination to keep the park genuinely for Sun City members.

The need for an indoor dog club is not an expenditure I feel is needed. The dog club has limited attendance during the summer hours primarily due to the residents who return to other parts of the country for the summer months. The "I want it now" mindset is taking over and is not the way a community will grow and eveolve as needed to be an inclusive area for its members.

So, no, I am no confused about where money has gone.

Closed door meetings????? Can we stay in the present please. I don't know or care what happened with the dog park when Bill was on the board. That was 10 years ago. Here you go...present board info. https://www.talkofsuncity.com/threads/rcsc-bod-meeting-2-29-24-video-summary.5795/#post-30390

Actually I have been following the actions of the new GM and I am not pleased. His actions are slow moving but in total should be a warning sign to the membership. Since taking over he has fired the assistant GM and Director of entertainment, now has decided to get rid of the libraries! I see him as getting rid of everything that represents the “Old Regime.” The word around the campfire is he is a micromanager and people are worried where the axe falls next. I am still unsure what his plan is for SC, but he seems to be in love with corporate business drivel. Remember we paid a third rate search firm $30,000 plus I would guess 10% of his annual as a finders fee for someone who already works for the RCSC.

My current position is that with a Member Exchange coming up in April and we should be roasting his nuts over this library thing because it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever ever. What is his plan for the space, Sun City and the future. Please no business babble as I had to put up with for 30 years. What does the Board need to dump this guy?

Would anyone please furnish any actual documentation that proves that the GM wants to get rid of the libraries?

Excellent move by Friends of the Sun City Libraries to establish the “Save Our Libraries” campaign website.
    Looks good!

Stay in the present, eh? The actions of the past has great deal of relevance as to the present as it relates to what is happening today. You obviously are noy a "happy" hippie at all. What I speak of is relevant to todays culture because there needs to be a awakening to the bigger picture of what is needed to be relevant as a community and it tune with its membership. In other words this board has a duty to roll up their sleeves, put their nose to the grindstone, and get past the "I want what I want when I want it mentality". It is going to take an effort that should be shouted from the roof tops that the community needs to rally to save and preserve our resources. That is the libraries. Yes, there is a larger than desired non-resident population utlizing the resources of the RCSC. And I agree, as long as Phase 1 stays in the position it is in south of GrandAve, doing anymore work to Moutainview should also be a concern.

For now, using TOSC as a resource is a great way to communicate with those willing to be open to ideas for this community and how it will continue to move forward for the future. The word needs to get out to everyone, the entire membership, an email blast from the RCSC would be the most logical conclusion. Is there a way to get this sort of Community Communication out to those in the community to be made aware of what is going on? Could the RCSC actually take on the communication protocol to inform its members?

Het there Geoffrey, so excited and glad to see you on here.

The Friends of the Library site is well done and filled with information. Kudos to whomever assembled it so fast and thorough. I was surprised to see in the one section they answered how many of those 146,000 visits were from Sun City residents; 79%.

A five year plan is being developed for RCSC. I believe it will be presented to the BOD in May.

Hippie, closing ones eyes to the past of Sun City begs for the repeat of the ills that got us here to begin with. The needs of today are in direct juxtaposition of not keeping ones eyes on the direction this community was being taken to. Don't know how long you have lived here or have been involved in the governance and committees of Sun City, but for those of us who have witnessed first hand what can be lost while not staying aware of the past and how this community was undone in front of the eyes of the RCSCmembers of Sun City is a very scary proposition. If the GM is performing in ways that resemble a power grab from the direct input of the BOD, that is a repeat of the past and needs to be rectified by this board immediately. No more repeat loss of member benefits due to power hungry GM's. Is the BOD running this community with input from the GM, or the other way around? Again, history repeating itself.

Like it or not, the past has a great dealof bearing on the consequences of today. like it or not. Those of us who have lived with those consequences not only do not want them repeated, but am adamant that if change needs to happen, do it now, don't wait for another insidious several years to come to pass while preaching this is your future.
