I was sure the required seven day posting of the agenda for next week’s Board meeting, Thursday, January 25 @ 9am, would have some details.

No, the agenda is not available yet!

Video of the Special Session should post sometime tomorrow.

Yes MikeM, I also looked over the MV reno project. Some interesting items in the document. During SAC meetings architect mentioned building new PAC would cost twice a renovated PAC. About $26 million than to build new. Wow! Board sounds like they are going for a new PAC.

In regards to pb, much of it seemed to depend on continued growth of the sport in Sun City. So yes it appears pb will get more courts. How many is still in question.

I still haven’t heard if a structural study was completed on the existing auditorium. Just some quick and initial thoughts from me.

It was certainly a no-brainer to turn the lawn bowling court into pickleball courts! After all, there are currently 5 locations to lawn bowl with 7 courts and the popularity of the game is going down while pickleball is increasing.

I still believe there's no need to increase the fitness center since Fairway is less than 1 mile away!

It appeared that some members of the SAC committee had their feelings hurt today? Truth is, there were too many members of that committee with personal agendas. I call that a conflict of interest!

MV is a "community" facility, paid for and maintained by the "community."

I liked the idea to build a PAC at Lake View and the Players could continue to use MV until the PAC at Lake View opened.

All in all, nothing has been finalized so we have a ways to go!

Yep, still lots of questions and I’m guessing no firm answers. More shall hopefully be revealed.

During the SAC sessions, the architect would only quote the price of a 20k sqft pac. After the SAC was dissolved, the Board learned that a 10k sqft pac, much like SCW's would cost less than the $13.1m she quoted to remodel the Mountain View auditorium.

Wow, very interesting. From attending some mtgs. and what I'd been reading, I thought the "M" proposal was getting lotsa support. I liked the idea of saving some of the old building as long as it had "good bones" as had been reported. Sometimes we're so quick to just plow everything under and anxious to start fresh without respecting history and adaptively reusing which is more the norm overseas.

Plan M did have mucho support and was a plan designed for flexibility and change if needed. I guess? the board received more info that a remodel was going to be more expensive than thought. So they cut the sq. footage to 10,000 and want to build new.

My only question is whether a structural study was done on the existing building. That was suppose to happen before a final decision was to be made.

Round and round we go ………!

The board is moving forward with building a new performing arts center at Lakeview.

It appears to me the future of the Mountain View auditorium is to be determined by study results as the RCSC staff proceeds:

    Mountain View Renovations Elements
    Project Design Steps
    • The Board provides the General Manager (GM) with design elements
    • The staff uses elements to elicit design proposals
Staff interacts with architects, engineers & stakeholders and receives design proposals (no money spent)
    • Architect chosen - Interactive design process with Board and stakeholders to build a schematic design
    • Design development followed by construction documents
    • RFP out to contractors, bid acceptance by bid commission
    • Construction starts
    (Page 36)

    Auditorium
    • Not touched and can be used during renovation
Can be repurposed, renovated, or demolished for a different structure after PAC construction is complete
    (Page 44)

    Lakeview Performing Arts Center
    • New PAC at Lakeview • Location TBD
    • Lobby
    • Theater-style seating
    • ADA compliant
    • Dressing rooms, production storage
    • Modern light and sound systems
    • Better acoustics
    • Parking not a concern
    (Page 45)

Why Put the PAC at Lakeview?
    • Centralized location with more acreage
    • Current auditorium used during renovation
    • Useable for numerous clubs, community events, meetings, movies • 10,000 sq. ft., approximately 300-350 seats
    • Keep Lakeview lawn bowling, shuffleboard, fishing, and mini golf

Thanks for posting this eo! Wonder if board knows actual cost of this decision. Seems money meant for MV now to be spent at Lakeview. I guess the not started 5 year plan will explain the money shuffle?

Also by leaving the auditorium work for later and adding a dome MV loses a wow factor. Matter of fact sounds like MV will look uglier. The dome idea sounds ugly to me, though I have been wrong before.

And if I lived near MV, was a pool user, or mini-golfer I would be worried about pb noise. Do I hear popcorn popping? So I still think it best to enclose the existing pb courts and converted tennis courts with a permanent structure. Use lawn bowling area for parking. Renovate auditorium for PAC.

The caution expressed in the John Fast presentation should be strongly considered. Just some thoughts, not being privy to all information board has at their disposal.

I tend to think that after the Special Session the MV project has now entered into another phase, and that phase is to pretty much ignore the comments from the Members and from now on the general manager and staff will concentrate on moving forward (wherever that may be) and develops the final plan.

Might not be a bad thing because sooner or later you just have to get the ball rolling?

This board pulled back the curtain to include membership input prior to making a decision on how to proceed with Mountain View.

Previous board told the membership a $40 mil Taj Mahal was going to be built!

Their legacy was shattered with a more member focused board in place.

Hasn’t been an easy or perfect transition…definitely an improvement, imho!

Sad if true and hypocritical by the board. If they are not going to listen to members as they move forward they should say so. Don’t think not listening is part of their stated goals.

I think the previous board was stymied by Covid as much as anything. Really helped drive up the inflation. And pb folks also rallied together and became an obvious force to reckon with.

But don't you think that at some point the constant back and forth comments from the Members has to end?

The Board and management can't just keep switching back and forth trying to appease the latest group of comments when you know darn well there will be an opposing group of comments coming next!

The Board needs to either get on with it and move forward or would you rather have them just throw up their hands and say they're not going to do anything more until everybody agrees? Which you know will never happen.

Agree, FYI, decision has been made.

Time to support the process that is in place.

Ideally a RCSC website “work in progress”section will keep the membership informed with periodic updates.
