I know some of you are members of the Sun City Advocates group, i suspect many of you aren't. Rather than rewriting my thoughts regarding the current state of the RCSC, find below the batch email we sent to our roughly 400 members. It was a simple reminder about the meeting tonight (Wednesday, 11/29 at the Sundial auditorium; registration starts at 5 pm and meeting kicks off at 6 pm) and a reminder to please vote in the RCSC election for board members. Here's the piece: Board Scoreboard Anyone who has followed these missives from the Sun City Advocates knows this year was chaotic, tumultuous, and contentious...and that was just during the first three months. I'd like to say it settled down, but even that would be a stretch. The board struggled to find a cohesive internal rhythm. The good news is, in spite of their differences, they plowed forward committed to the values of a self-governed community. For that, they get an A+ in my book. The downside was how poorly they interacted away from the members, which bled through at open meetings. As we approach the year's end, there's been more twists and turns than a good Stephen King novel. November was one of the craziest times in RCSC history. We started this month with a Member Exchange, a Board meeting, and 4 Town Hall sessions, the continuation of voting in four new Board Members and we will conclude with the annual membership meeting. Annual Membership Meeting Tomorrow Scheduled for Wednesday, November 29 with sign-in starting at 5 pm with the Annual Membership Meeting starting at 6 pm. It will be held at the Sundial Auditorium. You will need your RCSC photo ID to register. You may recall, that the Board recently approved the quorum requirement reduced to 500 members (including proxies). It's still a fairly high threshold so putting your butts in the chairs would be a good thing. There are a couple of motions submitted timely by members, you can find the agenda and motions here. If a quorum is not reached, I'm not sure what their plans are. Hopefully, they will take the opportunity to open the mic to comments from members. Clearly, there are enough hot-button issues to address the concerns of those attending. We'll see. 2023 Elections for the 2024 Board of Directors There are volumes for us to talk about but we'll do that in a year-end summary. We would be remiss to not remind you about this year's RCSC election. There are 4 open seats, with 6 candidates in contention. The Advocates have identified 4 of them who appear to be committed to enhancing the tenets associated with governing the entire membership's expectations and not focused on a single-issue agenda. They are: Anita Borski Connie Jo Richtmyre James Rough Preston Kise You can vote now online by logging on to the web portal of the RCSC website. If you want to vote in person, Tuesday, December 12 at the Lakeview Social Halls is the location. They will be open from 8 am until 4 pm. The votes will be counted following the close of voting. As always, elections have consequences. Please vote. As always, just one man's opinion. Bill Pearson Sun City Advocates and Sun City Historian.
Kudos to everyone who helped reach a quorum at last nights membership meeting. 600 butts in chairs plus proxies. Awesome. While some will argue the value, i loved almost every minute of the back and forth between members and board. It will only grow and get better from here.
Nothing too embarrassing. Just the mics for the folks at the front table were on and the conversations we’re not meant for the audience.
