For those of you who aren't members of the Sun City Advocates, here's a blast email we sent yesterday to those who have signed up. Crazy schedule this week: Our Future Starts Tomorrow I know it's an odd headline, but it is both literally and figuratively true. This next week for the RCSC Board and more importantly the RCSC Membership, is shaping up to be filled with opportunities that will set the course for the next several years to come. Where it gets really exciting is, this is just the start, the kickoff if you will. Let's give you a quick overview of what the calendar looks like with links to our Advocates blog for a more in-depth dive. Monday, October 23 This will be the first of two candidate forums; and it will be a chance to see the candidates up close and personal. At 1:30 there will be a meet and greet social gathering and then from 2 pm till 4 pm, the candidates will answer questions and interact with the audience. It's a great way to get a sense of what the candidates see as our future. This event will be held at the Sundial auditorium. * Breaking News* (I've always wanted to write that) Director Darbut has dropped out of the election!!! Wednesday, October 25 This will be a repeat of the daytime session, but the hours will be the meet and greet starting at 5:30 pm and the session itself running from 6-8 pm. The lament has often been that those working aren't able to attend and historically the RCSC has run an evening version. This meeting will also be held at the Sundial Auditorium. Both these sessions will be recorded for playback at your leisure, and will be available on the RCSC YouTube channel. For those who want a quick look at each of the candidates, you can see their two-minute video here. Thursday, October 26 Hang on to your hats, this week's October Board meeting will be explosive. There's a wide range of motions, you can view them here. We won't belabor them in this email, our blog will be more detailed. Much of the angst will be the result of the summer-long Budget and Finance process where those attending were told of the 20 million dollars’ worth of deferred maintenance and the potential plan to catch-up. It starts at 9 am at the Sundial Auditorium and if you want to speak on a motion(s) you need to sign up before the meeting starts. Friday, October 27 The Strategic Alternatives Committee (SAC) is winding down its efforts in preparation for the coming Town Hall meetings in November. I would argue the meeting on October 20 was the most productive so far. Unfortunately, as valuable as the session was, there is clearly a fair amount of confusion about both what can be built and what can actually fit on that 6.5-acre parcel of property. The good news is/was, we heard the architect lay out a plan that brought costs in around the 25-million-dollar range. You can watch the last SAC meeting, it will be posted Monday on the RCSC YouTube channel, found here. We know with the weather breaking many of you will be looking to start enjoying the crisp fall weather that is coming. The Sun City Advocates are committed to keeping you informed and up to date with what is happening within the community we all love and call home. Hoping you will be in the meeting rooms with us, if not be sure and stay informed. Word of mouth is the best method of spreading the word. Our blog, found here, will give you a better look at how we see things. Hoping to see many of you there. Bill Pearson Sun City Advocates and Sun City Historian.
Okay...I'll start it off as the lone naysayer! You are of course referring to the unauthorized non-Strategic Alternative Committee which was never properly established by the board?
