Heard estimated $13 million for PAC remodel. Any other great news or not so great news from SAC meeting today?

I don't know what to think! Some of the committee members came up with yet another plan!

I fear that they are going to keep jerking around and next year's new board will simply change everything again.

Seems that some still would like to see the PAC built at Lake View!

I think if I were the architect I'd say "Bye-bye, call me when you finally figure out what you want".

Understood FYI. The architect kept saying nothing is final yet. It would have been nice if the new plan and ideas were presented sooner. Seems the Players want to stay at MV and get the PAC completed ASAP. They have waited for so long I believe their wish should be granted.

It gives me pause: $13M for a single amenity (yes, several small groups - I do understand) in an old building (with still undetermined issues) in the most distant location. I'm sure the architects can make this a very attractive facility. However, the question remains - do we spend $13M for something that isn't really the best we could do for the money, or in the best location for the most members. I don't have the answer, but the question is still there. And, I do understand the plight of the Players and their long, agonizing wait.

If the Players are good with it, I say go for it. Though I still want to watch the videotape of the meeting.

It should be watched by as many Members as possible. This will be a major investment: $10M more than Fairway that was a rebuild.

Still lots of work to do on the project and next week the plan is to try and drill it down for something to show the town hall meetings.

Still need to watch video of meeting, but curious to what the “drill it down” means for this committee?

Not really best we could do and not in best location? Why not? What is better? Early on in committee meetings was the rally, “we don’t have the money.” $13 million for top notch remodel sounds reasonable.

My thoughts are: The costs for just the auditorium are $13M: entire project is $25M. Is this really the first class theater for ALL kinds of current and future events. This is our chance. We're not going to have a do-over. One amenity is more than half the cost of the entire project. And, will it really give us the best bang for our dollars? I am NOT opposed to a PAC. I think we need a really nice venue for theater, lecturers, other types of entertainment, with all of the proper amenities that one would expect. Is this really it? And, as was pointed out, it's unknown if the building is defective in any way. I thought it had already been determined the building was structurally sound. Let's see what the Members think. Town Halls are coming soon.

Okay, understood. Thanks! I can hear the members no matter the recommendation.

I really have no recommendation, Tom. I'm just sharing thoughts. It's really tough. What makes it even more difficult - the years of delay. We can't go back, but if there is any lesson here, RSCS must develop a long range plan, believe in it and stick to it. They can be modified along the way as things change, but they are constantly reviewed. They are living documents and work in concert with budgets, revenue projections, and social needs. RCSC has failed miserably and we are paying a price. I hope the members understand and this Board and its committees and management can agree we have to do so much better.

You'll need to watch the video from this past Friday. Towards the end of the video the architect explained to the committee while there were solid numbers for them to look at, there was a lot of issues and details to work through. Nothing she presented was carved in stone. What she needed to do was give committee members an idea what they could expect regarding costs for the scope of the project. Her totals came in at a little over 25 million dollars with plenty of wiggle room on costs and options that could be added or deleted.

The goal next Friday is to try and further establish something tangible to show members at the town hall meetings in November.

I thought someone said no asbestos - but I'm not sure. But I'm sure she said no structural engineering work has been done.

Thanks Linda. For clarification, I did not ask you for a recommendation and do understand the difficulties. Lots of moving parts in this decision making process. My comment on hearing the members now, is simply that some will agree and some will disagree. I can hear it now.
