Correct me if I am wrong (I know you will) have any of these candidates lived here for 5 years or more? And who are they? How many of these are Mountainview users? If you haven't been living in Sun City full or part time for 10 years you should not be allowed to run for the board. And how many of these have got their hands dirty volunteering during the week and on weekends if none of you have never done this you should be automatically disqualified. I remember many weekends picking up litter and oranges on Del Webb. Most of you probably don't remember orange trees on Del Webb.
Well...you should simply attend the Candidate Forums and go early, and you can ask the candidates themselves!
I don't believe there will be a "Lightning Round" this year. The reason the Chair asks a lot of questions is because not enough questions come from the audience!
It's too bad the board was so shortsighted on restoring the communication committee. In spite of that being one of the most heavily proposed ideas from the working group, they said nah, we don't need that. Go figure? Then to add to the misery index we were treated to a board member telling us about how unimportant social media is. Dare i say Troglodyte? It is the cheapest. easiest tool in the arsenal to reach beyond what happens in RCSC meetings and board rooms. Yesterday i posted on a Facebook page i help with as an administrator. It was a picture from the crowd on Monday night's exchange. I'm limited on words, but i dove into the fiasco of non-resident full pass. Oh my word, the comments flew and the discourse got really interesting. In fact, one board member even came on and tried twisting the numbers to support his position. The beauty of data, research and transparency is the numbers are what the numbers are. Back when i was on the RCSC board (2012-2014), i proposed we create an interactive website complete with an open forum where members and potential buyers could ask questions and then post both the question and the answer to be read by all. The look of shear terror on the faces of fellow board members and the general manager was priceless. Fear, absolute fear. The idea we openly and honestly create viable, visible and two-way communication structure scares the crap out of people who don't want you to know what's going on. I get it...and now we are all paying the price for being so shortsighted and afraid of members knowing too much. Social media will play an important role in this year's election.
I agree but I don't believe the Members will be allowed to, nor should they, ask pointed questions such as, "Will you vote for an increase in the cost of golf?"
It's obvious from the comments flying yesterday how much we desperately need a solid Communications Committee.
Yes but we voted that idea down because we don't need it. I didn't sign up to speak on the motion i thought it was a mortal lock at the first reading. I foolishly expected board members had actually read the working groups recommendations.
Your point is well made - what are they afraid of? It was shocking that they voted it down, and even more shocking were their reasons. This is the 21st Century and they are making decisions about an organization the size of a mid-size municipality with a similar operating budget. It's time Members pay attention.
3. Secretary Totten – Using the 5 C’s of communication (clear, correct, complete, concise, and compassionate), I move to recommend that the Outreach & Communications Committee be re-established through an amendment to BP#27 titled Standing Committees, with the committee’s purpose listed as follows: Outreach & Communications Committee: The purpose of the Outreach and Communication Committee is to ensure that we increase our visibility, help re-establish a sense of community, identify key messages, connect with our Members, Board of Directors and our RCSC Staff; while recommending avenues for an exchange of information, encouraging active participation, and serving as a link with our community partners to promote quality messages as we all serve the same people. The motion passes 5 to 4 with Director Darbut, Director Nichols, Director Rough and Treasurer Fast opposed
Not saying there is but to answer such a pointed question makes for a very perilous answer. They need the typical runaround wishy-washy answer not to lose half their base! I'm afraid it's all about golf again and personally, I will be avoiding voting for those candidates. Not the first time we would have such a board and we know what happened last time!
Dang, my bad. I watched that section again just the other day as i had stepped out during the vote and for some reason thought it failed. It really is tough to get old.
And why shouldn’t they be asked? I’m certain that all candidates have already formed their opinions on golf and all capital improvements.
Historically they've not allowed direct questions regarding topics they could be voting on. There's ways around it without asking direct yes or no answers.
