Once the motions about golf started happening it got so confusing and out of hand I left at 11:30. They were amending motions then they would "table" the motion when they should have been "postponed" the motioned (yes, there is a difference). I believe it went on for another hour? The good news is they passed the 500 quorum.
Thanks Tom M. Never heard about postponing a motion. Sounds like a parliamentary expert may be needed. The 500 for a quorum will be interesting. I look forward to watching the video.
No video yet, 3pm, Friday, Sept. 29, 2023. Six Page Meeting Summary HERE Pleased to see names of the directors casting opposing votes. Always should be a part of the record and helpful when deciding to elect someone or not, hmmm…
Part of the shit show effect was the late amendments to the motions. I am of the mind if there is an amendment it should only be introduced at the meeting and can be voted up or down at the time. The idea of trying to add an amendment and then reading it at the same time of the initial motion created absolute havoc. So much so, i would argue it was intentionally done that way.
What went on with those motions was a disaster. They got so confusing nobody knew what they were voting on! Perhaps that's why Jean asked to change her vote? If they are smart they should take advantage of their incorrect usage of the motion to Table and just let the motion die at the next meeting. Just so you know, the motion to Table is to be used when something more urgent suddenly arises and the tabling is only temporary. Once the urgent issue is attended to and during that same meeting the motion to Take from the Table should be used. A tabled motion is typically not put on the agenda of the next meeting and only become active again if somebody makes the motion to Take if from the Table. If that's not done by the end of that meeting the motion dies. The motion to Postpone, on the other hand, requires that the motion that was postponed has to be put on the agenda of the next meeting. I think the best thing to do because of all the confusion, is to not list those Tabled motions on the agenda and simply make new clean, clear motions, and let the Tabled motions die! Just my opinion. It's my intent to educate and not critisize.
I think it is obvious that the Board needs a fair amount of training and a session on Robert's Rules of Order, just as Linda McIntyre has stated many times. I can imagine how embarrassing it was to sit on the Board and have to endure such a confusing meeting. Kudos to our President for doing her best to keep order and not let the mob take control. What meeting is on Thursday?
The Exchange meeting on October 9 is shaping up to be a barn-burner. The golfers will be out in force, the Mountain View/Players will be lined up to speak and now word is both the softball and pickleball players are rallying the troops. This is one i wouldn't miss for all the proverbial tee in China.
