P.S. And the fact that all unfinished business dies at the end of the year (unless it's in the hands of a committee) is due to the term limits of Directors and has nothing to do with being a session.

I agree with you. Sadly, the person in authority doesn't and apparently has no qualms about abusing that power - 'right' and 'wrong' don't appear to have much bearing. Issue at hand is that the assessment increase will go thru (maybe a bad thing) and that it was not revealed to the Members (definitely a bad thing).

While i had more than my share of differences with the former general manager (mostly because she hung around too long and became too comfortable in getting exactly what she wanted), the new guy is far removed from her skill sets. The biggest problem we had with both of them is their inability to understand the gm works for the board. The former worked tirelessly to tell us that, though it was seldom the case. The new one appears to have adopted a majority of the board he looks at as an extension of his management team.

During the first 50 years, that was never, NEVER the case. The relationship was clearly established, the board made the decisions, the general manager acted on them. The policy i posted in the "it's not even about golf" thread is the perfect example of how it should work: the general manager there works out the details for outside play, the board sets a parameter where member play "always has priority" over those coming in from the outside. How easy is that?

We'll never get there unless or until we elect directors who believe the members matter.
