KUDOS...

I could not be more proud of all of you who went out and busted your hump to insure we had a quorum today at the Annual Membership. Perhaps no one was more surprised than me; well maybe a handful of board members who were sure it wouldn't happen.

So you understand how big this was, the normal turnout in the past 12 years has been anywhere between two hundred and four hundred members. Today when they asked if there was a quorum, they announced more than 1400 between proxies and in the room and butts in chairs.

    Staggering.

While we never got to vote, they took our motions/recommendations/proposals under advisement. There was an abundance of angst regarding that position, and rightly so. The Articles and the By-Laws are in conflict and one could readily argue there should have been. It wasn't an argument worth the fight because ultimately the chair has the authority to rule.

As i was typing this my wife got off the phone with a friend who had gathered proxies and told her how unhappy she was that nothing changed. I suspect all kinds of people felt that way, so let me give you some sage advice; Don't be disgruntled. Today was the best day in a very long time in Sun City's storied history. I guarantee you the board got the message; loud and clear.

We will know for sure in the next several months. Either they will try and change and become willing to work with the membership or they won't. If they won't, we will redouble or efforts, turn up the intensity and push even harder next time. I happened to believe only a fool would fail to listen to those who showed up and spoke up.

Tomorrow, you can vote in person at the Lakeview Social Halls, or you can do so on line. Several people asked me who i am voting for. No drama here, i have three for sure; Karen, Kat and John all have my vote. The 4th is an open question mark for me. I may not even cast a 4th vote, or i may decide to when i walk in the room tomorrow. I think 6 of the candidates have potential, the 7th i know too little about as she was unable to make any of the candidate forums.

Then on Thursday, the final membership meeting of the year is scheduled. I'll go to it for no other reason than to see the mood in the room. That meeting is at 9 am at the Sun Dial Rec Center. I have several questions, one about the artificial carpet at Fairway for lawn bowling.

In the meantime, kudos to all who chased down proxies, signed a proxy or actually showed up in person. Today was truly memorable and year from now we will look back and say, December 13, 2001 was the day we got back on the path to keep Sun City the most unique age restricted community in the country.

Seriously gang...it was that big a deal.

We had a great, outspoken, and patient (!!??) "leader."

KUDOS to you BP for getting us to work together and you kept giving us history that made it easier to go out and talk to people with a since that we knew what to heck we were talking about. :) Everyone did a great job and I guess it took what they did to Karen to get it started and believe it or not they still don't think they did anything wrong. Congratulations to everyone involved, which was 1,486, job well done!!!!

She should resign, her comments were uncalled for. Resign or impeach her choice.

The 2022 Board will meet soon after the first of the year to elect THEIR officers. Sue could be elected again.

Director Akins could be recalled; Rick Toland has been trying to get a control number (as required by the bylaws) from the Board since September to put his petition out on the streets to recall Sue Wilson from the Board. He is still waiting. I don't see why others on the Board couldn't be recalled at the same time with all petitions being circulated together. But over 3,000 signatures will need to be acquired.

Timing is right with the tremendous participation and outrage of members recently “woke!” Awareness is SO high, let’s harness that now. Engage and acknowledge their participation is important and valued before interest wanes.

I've not been feeling kindly towards the board as a whole but today I gained respect for Steve Collins who went around before the mtg. began and thanked people for coming and then during the mtg. he, in spite of Ms. Prez trying to shut him up, said during their board mtg. he'd bring up the recommendations the membership was hoping would be voted on today. I believe he has also supported Karen, so maybe not ALL board members should be condemned....

You are correct. Steve Collins has advocated for members - by himself - for months. When Karen was on the Board, he often voted alongside her. I am looking forward to seeing our "new" Board join forces with him as he continues his work for the members. It must be tough to always be the odd man out.

And it's my understanding that Steve collected about 90 proxies which he was going use on the side of the Members.

Steve's a good guy and if we hadn't made such a fuss about removing Karen, Steve would be gone as well!

Was this meeting video recorded for YouTube?

We assumed so, but nothing has appeared from oh mighty Oz on the hill. Wonder if they're trying to slice the ugly parts of it out.

No official word on Election results either. Would love to know the totals!

I suspect we will see both sometime early today. I have been pleasantly surprised the editing has been virtually non-existent; hopefully that will be the case. I could have swore in years past we got an email blast the night of the election with the results. Perhaps that was/is more just wishful thinking on my part. It will be really interesting to see the vote totals for the candidates. They used to show all of them, but in recent years they only gave the winners totals.

    Waiting, waiting…nothing yet.
    No video https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdLy0Uy9sKWCJNLz37tn5ug/videos
    No summary/minutes https://suncityaz.org/rcsc/meeting-minutes-and-summaries/

Yesterday afternoon, 5:45 pm, Dale responded to my email about the delay,

“I’m sorry. I've been at the election since 7:30 this morning. I just got home, and I don't know why it hasn't been posted.”

Previous videos have been raw, posted in 24 hours, not edited, other than usage legality warning and intro title graphic at the beginning.

Well the reason for no video has been posted. I fully expected something like this.

Do the individuals recording the meeting do this as volunteers or are they members of the IT department.

every video session should be tested to insure it is being recorded and it should be recorded by 2 different devices.
Once recorded, both videos should be backed up.

video recording should be the responsibility of the IT department by qualified technicians that check and check their equipment just prior to a video recording session.

They are employees of the RCSC and Alan is VERY capable and knowledgeable about his job.

I would not blame this on the audio/visual guys. Gee.....is Jan Ek still here?
