I just bought a place in Sun City, AZ and hoping to find a local fishing hole. *Anyone know of a place near Sun City? *Did they ever stock the lake in Sun City proper? *Please let me know. *I am desperate to catch a few.*
Welcome wornoutcowboy. Great question and even a better answer. Viewpoint Lake, behind the Lakeview Rec Center, is one of our hidden treasures. It was man-made in 1969 and has become quite the hot spot for residents and visitors alike. While on the board 4 years ago we approved a $150,000 lake management plan. Just stocking the lake was a hopeless situation. There was no habitat for fingerlings to hide and grow larger so during the first year and half of the plan, the community in concert with our consultant, built a series of catfish condo's and bass bungalow's (along with lots of other hiding places). Now when we stock, there's a mix of little ones and larger fish for you residents to go after. I know some folks around here are avid fisher men and women and hopefully they'll fill you in on where else to go outside the community. There's also a club you should think about joining of folks like yourself, can't remember the name but someone else can fill you in on who they are.
I was curious about fishing in or near Sun City.* Below is what I found after a very brief search. Maybe you could start a "Fishing" Club. Thanks for the the tip about*Viewpoint Lake. *I didn't realized it was stocked. Also thanks for the tips about the other spots near Sun City too. *I am ready to catch the one that got away from you other fisher people.
I thought it was only for the people who lived on the lake.* Good to know all SC cardholders etc. can use it.* Where to you sign in?
Viewpoint Lake is open to all cardholders. I think you only have to sign in if you want to actually go out on the lake on one of the paddle boats or row boats and you would sign in at the mini golf monitor. No license is needed for fishing as it is a private lake. You may be asked to show your member card so best bring it with you while fishing. Dawn Lake is the private lake and there is no access for non property owners. I wouldn't think this lake is stocked unless the lake residents pay for it themselves.
Yes it is stocked and yes residents pay for it. The edge of the lake is clear and I can see large fish when I stand on my dock.*
