Would someone “in the know” concerning the B&F and LRP meetings held today be willing to discuss how things went in the meeting(s)? Just curious as a sunbird.

Guess not! Though I did read the 4-9-24 LRP committee meeting summary. Was not sure what was presented to the GM by a sub group of said committee. Something about a Goal #2. I do have an idea about this , but was not clear in summary. Probably missed a reference somehow, somewhere?

Yes, it's called "silence Josie' or something like that. Started around the time EO posted "It's back". I am an "it" who is not allowed to have an opinion. The new left likes to silence and erase people. Just like they did to Nancy Green. Sad world and very unfair to the fond memories we all have of Ms. Green.

A great woman erased from history by politics.

The branding of the syrup was a tribute to this woman’s gifts and talents. Now future generations will not even know this beautiful woman existed. What a shame. The world knew her as “Aunt Jemima”, but her given name was Nancy Green and she was a true American success story. She was born a slave in 1834 Montgomery County, KY. and became a wealthy superstar in the advertising world, as its first living trademark. Green was 56-yrs old when she was selected as spokesperson for a new ready-mixed, self-rising pancake flour and made her debut in 1893 at a fair and exposition in Chicago. She demonstrated the pancake mix and served thousands of pancakes and became an immediate star [IMG]. She was a good storyteller, her personality was warm and appealing, and her showmanship was exceptional. Her exhibition booth drew so many people that special security personnel were assigned to keep the crowds moving. Nancy Green was signed to a lifetime contract, traveled on promotional tours all over the country, and was extremely well paid. Her financial freedom and stature as a national spokesperson enabled her to become a leading advocate against poverty and in favor of equal rights for all Americans. She maintained her job until her death in 1923, at age 89. This was a remarkable woman, and sadly she has been ERASED by politics. I wanted you to know and remind you in this cancel culture time period.

LOL, probably missed a lot, as we all do, and not accidentally. What RCSC submits are not "Minutes". Not quite sure what they are, maybe notes/doodling? The only thing I know for sure is if I presented anything like that to our CEO calling it a finished document I would not have lasted 17 years, maybe 17 weeks, or months if they were forgiving.

Summaries of board and committee meetings are posted as soon as possible to provide information to interested members.

They are not the official minutes that are presented, reviewed and accepted with any corrections at the following month’s meeting.

    Eyes Open -
Not disagreeing with the above statement but the 5-year Plan was a TEAM not a committee, thus, no summary. HOWEVER, yesterday at the Outreach and Communication we had Tom Foster - the Board liaison - present and when I inquired whether synopsis/minutes/summaries/whatever would be forthcoming for the Membership, he seemed to agree. Hopefully, that is a yes!

Jean, I was bothered by Matthew forming a team of board committee members and not calling it a committee so as to avoid it being public. It seems like another example of secretive dictatorial leadership and I wish he could see what everyone else sees. He just does whatever Karen and Kat tell him to do or what he feels like doing. I remain optimistic that we can get back to the point where members matter and are included.

Offered defining information on the difference between a summary and minutes in reference to the LRP summary 4.09.24 mistakenly thought to be minutes…labeled notes/doodling.

So only summaries are available on the RCSC website for committees, for the current month, no formal minutes with the exception of BOD meetings. In the business world summary and notes are interchangeable terms when talking about documentation that leads to the 'formal' minutes. And yes, sometimes doodling happened as meetings were generally 4 to 8 hours long.

Correct! But committees don't take or make "Minutes". And in the world of committees and parliamentary procedure, notes, summaries or memorandum are not required to be approved or signed! Committees officially speak thru their Reports and only the Report to the Board or assembly is required to be signed and approved by the committee!

Interesting. Committee meeting minutes were distributed to board members for review prior to the board meeting. Discussion if necessary. Motion to accept, seconded and entered formally into the BOD minutes.

I suspect that it was the committee Report that was submitted to the Board and not the summaries. Like I said, committees don't make "minutes" per se!

As a member of this "advisory team" I'm just going to say this: while this process, from an organizational standpoint, may have been flawed, that speaks to a whole host of problems - bylaws, policies, procedures, governance and enforcement. But - we all know that. So, we have all spent untold hours of volunteer time to work with senior management, that the GM directed to work on this project. Through this undertaking, many of those flaws are addressed, especially policies and procedures. Bylaws are a bit more outside my wheelhouse but we know there are serious problems that need fixing, but what we can all agree to: we have to stop this piecemeal approach to changes on a whim. Finally - governance. Many of us have been asking for governance reviews. I don't see that being ignored.

John, you started this plan idea. Take credit for it. I'm sorry you didn't attend the meeting. Maybe you were out of town. We are less than a month from handing off this report. We have considered everything that has been talked about and more, all financing resources, the impact, the benefits for everyone to operating under this new plan....the list goes on. People can suggest the GM had a desire to just do as he pleases. In this case, from where I sit, I feel his best interest of RCSC was and is his intent. A corporation this size cannot function by creating only annual budgets; procedures have to be in place to get a PIF project on the plan (via committe review and recommendation); a reserve study must be constantly updated to ensure capital expenses can be adequately planned for; and, that community master plan - long range plan, whatever we want to call it, that should have been done decades ago? Yes. In a perfect world. But, we currently have a road map. Construction plans are long range and we're making a forecast right now. In 2025 we have big opportunities to improve many things. If members are overwhelming dissatisfied with the results then ?

Linda, there were and still are many people who believe (as you do) that ad hoc planning can be and has been manipulated by special interests and bias board members to the detriment of the membership. The past is just that, the past. As far as starting this plan idea I really think all I did was study what other like communities were doing that we were not doing and listened to members who were much more experienced than me in this type of thing; including you. I hope as a result of "your collective work" we can stop the ad hoc decisions already in process (i.e., hiring an architect to design facilities that satisfy the elements set forth by the Board) and have a fresh start using reliable and trusted processes. There is simply too much money at stake to do otherwise. I hope the improvements can start NOW with rethinking the decisions the board made in haste.

John, we are on the same page. Change is hard. We can't escape the fact that members elected to the Board may have biases and conflicts - perceived or real. What we have to do is identify what constitutes those conflicts, disclose them and then determine if it requires the Board member not participate in the debate and abstain ftom voting. This is where Board governance responsibilities/training/leadership comes in to play. Board members always need to balance their personal choices and their responsibilities as a Board member. That's what makes being a Board member so difficult.
